Democratic senators urge Biden to use 14th Amendment to raise debt limit

A group of Democratic senators led by Sen. Tina Smith (Minn.) are circulating a letter urging President Biden to invoke his constitutional authority under the 14th Amendment to raise the nation’s debt limit without having to pass legislation through Congress.

These senators say the spending reforms that Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has demanded in exchange for raising the debt limit are unacceptable and that Biden should circumvent Republican lawmakers by raising the debt limit unilaterally, something that has never been done before and would almost certainly be challenged in court.

“We write to urgently request that you prepare to exercise your authority under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which clearly states: ‘the validity of the public debt of the United States...shall not be questioned.’ Using this authority would allow the United States to continue to pay its bills on-time, without delay, preventing a global economic catastrophe,” they write in a letter currently circulating through the Senate Democratic conference.

The signatories on the letter so far include Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.).

More debt ceiling coverage from The Hill:

The lawmakers warned they will not accept any concessions attached to the debt limit that cut federal assistance for low-income Americans without raising taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations.

“We cannot reach a budget agreement that increases the suffering of millions of Americans who are already living in desperation. At a time of massive wealth and income inequality, we must ask billionaires and large corporations who are doing phenomenally well to start paying their fair share of taxes,” they wrote in response to proposals by House Republicans to increase work requirements for people who rely on Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

The Democratic senators warned that Republican proposals in a House-passed bill to raise the debt limit could push as many as 21 million people off of Medicaid and deny nutrition assistance to 1.7 million women, infants and children.

The lawmakers also blustered at House Republicans’ demands to attach major permitting reforms for fossil-fuel attraction projects to debt-limit legislation.

“We also cannot allow these budget negotiations to undermine the historic clean energy and environmental justice investments made by Congress and your administration by allowing fossil fuel companies to unleash a flood of dirty energy projects that will worsen the climate crisis and disproportionately impact frontline communities. We must continue the transition from fossil fuels to clean and renewable energy,” they wrote.

Merkley said the letter is intended to assure Biden that he will have support on Capitol Hill if he decides to use the 14th Amendment to raise the debt limit in the absence of a deal with McCarthy.

“It’s important because Kevin McCarthy has two main requests: attack ordinary, working families across America by cutting the foundations for health care, housing, education and good-paying jobs, and unleash fossil fuels on America. And both of those are absolutely unacceptable,” he said.

"I want the president to see that he has the support in the Senate to use the 14th Amendment," he said. "He has support to say no to outrageous demands from the radical right."

Treasury Department Secretary Janet Yellen, however, warned last week that invoking the 14th Amendment would be a "constitutional crisis" and would spur a legal battle.

Lindsey Graham Cuts Deal With Bernie Sanders To Oppose ‘Election Deniers’ And ‘Defund The Police’ Candidates

Lindsey Graham offered to rein in pro-Trump Republican candidates who question the integrity of the 2020 election if Bernie Sanders would do the same regarding anti-police Democrats going forward.

The proposed compromise came about as the two Senators engaged in a debate as part of The Senate Project on Fox Nation.

Socialist Sanders (I-VT), during one exchange, started hammering Graham for his association with and promotion of Republicans who side with former President Donald Trump in questioning the legitimacy of the last presidential election.

“We have a former President whose name is Donald Trump. Goes around the country telling people, ‘Hey, I won the election. In fact, I probably won it by a landslide but they – they stole it. They took it away from me,’” Sanders argued.

“Now, that happens to be what we call a big lie,” added the socialist curmudgeon. He later lamented that the so-called ‘big lie’ casts doubt on the “entire system” and suggested it represents a slide to “authoritarianism.”

Lindsey Graham Compromises With Bernie Sanders

Lindsey Graham took the bait from Bernie Sanders and offered to rein in pro-Trump Republicans who cast doubt on the 2020 election.

Graham (R-SC) insisted he “voted to certify the election” and, despite there being “some mail balloting chicanery” declared that Biden won the election.

“But what about all of the candidates out there who are trying to say that he didn’t?” Sanders chimed in. “Your Republican candidates you want people to vote for?”

“Well, I, you know … what about the people saying defund the police? You talk to them, I talk to that crowd,” Graham replied.

Bernie’s Own Big Lie

Bernie Sanders responded to Lindsey Graham by saying, “But your crowd is a lot larger than my crowd.”

This is a statement that underscores Graham’s fumble in going the false equivalency route. He didn’t have to compare ‘defund the police’ Democrats to Republicans who call into question election results. No, that’s a whole different segment of extremists on the left.

Graham simply had to challenge Sanders to denounce Democrats who … have questioned election results.

Like White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre who said the 2016 presidential election was “stolen.”

Trump’s opponent in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton, spent years claiming the election was stolen from her by the Russians and anybody else she could point a finger at.

“I was the candidate that they basically stole an election from,” she said.

Jean-Pierre’s boss, President Biden, cast his own doubts, agreeing with a woman at a campaign rally who said Trump was an “illegitimate president in my mind.”

“I absolutely agree,” Biden replied.

Former President Jimmy Carter believed Trump lost saying, “I think a full investigation would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016.”

Democrats, in fact, objected to the election results in 2016 officially and during the proceedings certifying electoral votes 11 separate times.

So many ‘big lies’ right there.

And Lindsey Graham didn’t even need to bring up all those Democrat election deniers. He could have just challenged Bernie Sanders himself in the debate.

Sanders, you see, claimed the 2016 nomination was stolen from him by a system “rigged” to favor Clinton. Well, he used the ‘some people are saying’ play.

When asked if he would commit to supporting Hillary in 2016, Sanders replied: “Some people say that maybe if the system was not rigged against me, I would have won the nomination.”

Democrats, dating back to Al Gore’s refusal to accept defeat in 2000, have been the party of election skepticism. They haven’t suddenly turned a corner.

And they don’t get to play the ‘big lie’ card just because they think voters are too stupid to remember what they have done over the years.

Republicans like Graham need to stop playing defense on this and point to how Democrats were discrediting elections long before Donald Trump ever did.

Now is the time to support and share the sources you trust.

Michael Moore Trashes Joe Biden: He Lacks ‘Necessary Enthusiasm’ To Beat President Trump

Radically leftwing filmmaker Michael Moore just spoke out to blast Joe Biden, saying that he does not have what it takes to beat President Donald Trump.

“Biden does not generate the necessary enthusiasm that it’s going to take to get people out,” Moore told Vanity Fair. “The Democrats are cynically counting on everyone’s desire to remove Trump.”

“This has been a crazy year, a crazy election year, a crazy year on so many levels,” Moore continued. “Anything you would have predicted back in December or January is out the window. The year we thought we were going to have on any level is out the window. So if it’s all out the window, what else is out the window?”

“Nothing is lined up right this year. Just because he’s got the most delegates and everybody’s conceded, it doesn’t mean he’s going to be the nominee,” he added of Biden. “They’re not even going to have a real convention. Anything can happen.”

Moore, who was a supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), said the Democratic Party “ditched” Biden earlier this year when he “was losing everything so badly.”

“The Democratic establishment ditched Biden back in January when he was losing everything so badly. What’d they do? They changed the debate rules to let Bloomberg in. They were so desperate,” Moore explained. “They were ready to dump Biden like a hot potato, and they will do it again if they need to.”

This comes after Moore warned Democrats that Trump might win again, saying that the president is “going to do well” in November because he hasn’t lost “any of his support.”

“None of us should take him for granted,” Moore told Bill Maher, referring to the president. “We need to behave as if he will win a second term,” he added. “Anybody who right now says, ‘Oh no,’ you’re really part of the problem because you’re not taking this seriously. He [Trump] knows exactly what he’s doing. He was just in Michigan this week. It’s the third time he’s been in Michigan in three weeks. He believes he’s going to somehow pull this off.”

Here’s hoping that Moore is right, and that Trump trounces Biden come November!

Bill Maher Regrets Trump Impeachment: It ‘Turned Out To Be A Horrible Thing’

Liberal talk show host Bill Maher surprised everyone on Friday’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher” when he admitted he now regrets the impeachment of President Donald Trump, saying that it “turned out to be a horrible thing.”

While talking to leftwing documentary filmmaker Michael Moore, Maher pointed to Trump’s recent firings of various inspectors general, complaining that they got very little media attention amidst COVID-19. He believes that much of this lack of coverage can be traced back to Trump’s impeachment.

“Just the impeachment, you know, I mean, if I could do it over again I wouldn’t because it just emboldened him,” Maher said, according to Fox News. “Now he can conduct this war on accountability and nobody even— it barely made the papers. I bet you people are watching this and going, ‘Wow, I’ve never heard that because the news is all COVID.'”

Moore agreed with him, going so far as to say the removal of the government watchdogs makes Trump “very dangerous.” This comes one month after Maher called for Trump to be impeached for “favoring” states that “are nice to him” during the coronavirus pandemic, according to The Blaze.

“I find one of the most galling parts about this is that the president is favoring certain states over the others. Governors who are ‘nice’ to him, as he calls it, get a lot of attention and all of the equipment they want,” Maher told Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT). “To me, this is even more of an impeachable offense than what he did with Ukraine or Russia.”

Maher has long been vocal about his support for impeaching Trump, voicing his support for it in January of 2019. “I don’t know how we get out of this except by getting him out of office,” Maher said. “I wasn’t necessarily for impeachment until recently, but I think you have to go ahead and do it.”

Democrats were so focused on their effort to impeach Trump earlier this year that they almost completely ignored COVID-19 when the virus was starting to make its way to the U.S. Had Democrats not been distracting everyone with their impeachment nonsense, there’s no telling where we’d be with coronavirus today.

Bernie: I Would Not Close the Border to Protect Americans From Coronavirus

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders insisted he would not shut down the border in order to protect Americans from the coronavirus.

He made the comments during a town hall hosted by Fox News.

President Trump has touted his early efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus in the United States by declaring a public health emergency in January and imposing travel restrictions from China.

When asked by host Bret Baier if he would consider similar steps or even going a step further to keep the American people safe, Sanders admitted he would not.

Open Borders Insanity

“If you had to, if you had to, would you close down the borders?” Baier asked during the town hall.

“No,” Sanders replied. “I mean, what you don’t want to do right now — we have a president who has propagated a xenophobic, anti-immigrant sentiment from before he was elected.”

What that false assertion has to do with restricting access to people who might have been infected with the coronavirus is anybody’s guess.

In a sane world, refusing to close the borders to head off a possible health crisis would be disqualifying for a presidential candidate.

Continues to Portray Border Security as Racist

Sanders insisted he would take a more scientific approach in dealing with the coronavirus outbreak.

“What we need to do is have the scientists take a hard look at what we need to do,” he suggested. “There are communities where the virus is spreading. What does that mean? It may mean self-quarantining. It may be not having public assemblies.”

What if it means shutting down the border and ports of entry temporarily?

“Let’s not go back to the same old thing,” the Vermont senator continued. “Isn’t it interesting that a president who has been demagoguing and demonizing immigrants, the first thing that he could think about is closing down the border?”

What’s interesting is that, like a programmed robot curmudgeon, Sanders’ first response to everything is ‘keep the borders open.’ Let travel from any country flow freely. Even at the expense of the American people and their safety.

Bernie Would Have Allowed Coronavirus to Spread

Over a month ago, while Democrats and the media were consumed with the impeachment charade, President Trump took decisive action to combat Coronavirus.

He established a Coronavirus Task Force and suspended all travel from China while establishing a quarantine effort.

Sanders believes such actions are racially motivated, an absurdity at best.

“Because of all we’ve done, the risk to the American people remains very low,” President Trump said.

With the media panicking over the cases that have been reported thus far, imagine how bad things would have been if Trump followed Bernie’s advice and refused to enact some form of travel restrictions.

Chris Matthews Frets: If Bernie Wins the Nomination ‘We’ll Lose 49 States’

MSNBC host Chris Matthews is sounding the alarm suggesting that if the Democrat party goes all-in on radical socialist, Bernie Sanders, President Trump will wipe the floor with them on Election Day.

In discussing how the other candidates have withheld their fire against Sanders and his radical policies, Matthews predicted the ultimate outcome would be Trump winning 49 of 50 states. Or is it 57, Barack?

“They’re [other candidates] just pandering to the Bernie people and you know what pandering gets you? Nothing,” the MSNBC host complained. “It certainly doesn’t get you respect.”

“They’ve got to get out there and say I disagree with socialism; I believe in the markets; I think he’s wrong,” Matthews continued. “I think you’ll never get it done and this country will never go that direction, by the way we’ll lose forty-nine states.”

Safe to say, Chris has no thrill going up his leg for Bernie’s socialist candidacy.

RELATED: Chris Matthews: Obama’s Presidency ‘Still Thrilling to Me’

Let’s Analyze Those Comments

There is a lot to unpack in Matthews’ comments, not the least of which is how his prediction will probably come true. We’ll get to that in a minute, however.

Let’s begin with how the MSNBC host, who wants to convince viewers that he and his network are not an arm of the Democrat party, framed the comment.

We’ll lose forty-nine states.”

Why would he consider that a personal loss? A rhetorical question, of course.

Also worth considering, Mr. Matthews, is the possibility that Democrats aren’t exclusively pandering to Bernie’s people. Perhaps they have conformed to the extreme elements of the fringe left and are supportive of his socialist policies and platforms.

It’s not exactly a far-fetched notion for a party that has conformed to Bernie’s acolytes on impeachment hoaxes and theatrics from top to bottom.

RELATED: Chris Matthews Admits the Trump/Russia Collusion Story is Toast

He’s Right

Now back to our initial analysis – that Matthews may very well be right when he says the Democrats will suffer incalculable electoral losses on Election Day.

A new ABC/Washington Post poll shows the socialist curmudgeon dominating the field while more palatable choices amongst party moderates are plummeting.

And while Bernie-mania and his dreams of American socialism are popular amongst the extreme left, it remains extremely unpopular to the rest of America.

new poll found only 28% of Americans have a favorable view of socialism, while 58% have an unfavorable impression.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) believes Sanders’ name on the Democrat ticket will result in overwhelming losses for the party in November. Perhaps enough that the House could be flipped.

“Bernie Sanders and House Democrats’ socialist agenda will put an end to Nancy Pelosi’s unsuccessful second stint as Speaker,” NRCC Spokesman Michael McAdams said in a statement.

Bernie Sanders Thrives On Young Voters Not Educated On The History And Consequences Of Socialism

All of you young people need to remember that when you vote for people who want to give what we have away, loan forgiveness, Medicare for All, increased welfare, open borders, etc., all come at a price for someone.

Sooner or later, YOU are the ones who will have to pay for it all. Congress and the President cannot give anything away without first taking it from someone else. That someone else is YOU. Think about the things you are voting for and the costs.

Sen. Bernie Sanders is looking for young voters who haven’t been taught the history and consequences of socialism. If they think forgiving their school loan debt will improve their financial situation, wait until retirement.

Be very scared of people who cannot tell you how they are going to pay for something and if they say tax the rich listen to those of us who know. The rich will leave. There are plenty of Caribbean islands willing to take every one of our rich people and not tax them at all. You only need to look to states like NY and CA to understand the problems with many of these programs.

Many billionaires in NY have moved their residency to places like FL. Also, providing illegals with driver’s license has screwed hundreds of thousands of NY residents because now the Federal Gov’t, and rightfully so, have said they will no longer accept the NY state driver’s license and other things like global entry. This stuff has real impacts – like 30,000 truckers no longer being able to speed through the US border in Canada.

Free SUNY tuition has made those schools impossible to get into for anyone who wanted an affordable education but had slightly more than the amount you need for free education. Every day, working-class people are being screwed over. Look at the homeless problem in CA. Bernie doesn’t have any solutions for any of this stuff that will work.

MORE NEWS: Warren Describes Pence As A ‘Dog’ During New Hampshire Campaign Rally

We now live in a ‘Post-Democrat Party Era.’ Perhaps their voters may not realize this yet, but the outside world has seen their demise openly on display this week.

  • Iowa Caucus chaos;
  • Pres. Trump acquittal;
  • Rep. Nancy Pelosi temper tantrum;
  • Michael Bloomberg buying the DNC to change his Nevada rules;
  • Expulsion of CIA insiders from the National Security Council;
  • Democrat House members who refused to stand for Tuskegee airman;
  • Mean-spirited Democrats who refused to clap for a grammar school girl;
  • 20 to 30% of Trump rallies are made up of registered Democrats;
  • Trump raises $100 million war chest during impeachment,
  • Gallup now polls Trump higher than Obama, etc.

This is a complete collapse of the Democrat Party. The DNC’s (and their corporate handlers) only option now is to take over the nomination regardless if it heaps great contempt upon the Democrat voters.

The DNC has already said they do not want Bernie Sanders, but they allowed him to run on their party platform. Bernie is pulling the wool over some, but I hope the masses will realize there is no such thing as a free lunch. His plan will raise taxes to an ungodly amount. Is that free?

Here’s something that I have been wondering. If America is so broken, how come, Bernie, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and the others didn’t fix it while they were already in office? How come they can’t fix America unless they are elected President?

Name one thing Bernie has done during his time in office, because I can name at least 10 Trump promised to deliver on and did in just three years.

Take a long serious look at these Democratic politicians, whom many have been in politics for a long time, and ask yourselves these questions. What contributions have they made that improved the lives of Americans, what have they done with their time in serving the American people, and is one of them capable of doing half of what Pres. Trump has already done in improving our lives and serving the American people.

It’s only fair that the people with the least life experience, inherit the mess they voted for. The sad thing is, Sanders won’t be around to answer for the mess he’s left them with.

Trump Easily Wins Iowa, Twitter Roasts Democrats for Disastrous Night

By David Kamioner | February 4, 2020

The Republican National Committee couldn’t have asked for a better Iowa caucuses script if they had written it themselves.

On one hand, the GOP caucuses.

Efficient, timely, organized, nothing out of place. The president won most, if not all, of the delegates in the contest. At last count he had 38 out of 40 delegates and the other two should fall to him today when the few votes left are counted. It was a display of political professionalism on all GOP fronts, except for hapless presidential challengers Bill Weld and Joe Walsh. They hardly registered on radar.

We’ll spare you the details of the Democratic manure show, as we already covered it in our last article. We’ll let the president and others fill you in this time.

Trump campaign chief Brad Parscale chimed in with this.

“Democrats are stewing in a caucus mess of their own creation with the sloppiest train wreck in history. It would be natural for people to doubt the fairness of the process. And these are the people who want to run our entire health care system?”

Don Trump, Jr. joined the fun.

“If the Democrats can’t run a caucus that they had four years to prepare for, how the hell can anyone think they could actually run the country?”

Even Dems piled on.

Former Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson said of the young mayor, “Did Pete Buttigieg just claim victory in Iowa when the results haven’t been announced yet?”

Also this guy.

Former 2020 Democratic primary candidate Julian Castro tweeted: “This is a total mess. I respect the people of Iowa, they’ve been great—but it’s become very clear that our democracy has been misserved by a broken system.”

Then there’s this.

And this.

And my personal favorite, from the Democratic National Committee before they knew what their idiocies had wrought.

And how could the laugh riot be complete without the president.

For good measure, he even insinuated the whole thing was a ruse to stop Bernie Sanders from winning. Perfect.

Heads will roll at the Iowa Democratic Party, and perhaps at the DNC, over this. It rained on their impeachment show, it takes the spotlight away from any planned Democratic hijinks at the State of the Union address, and it plays right into the GOP message of the general incompetence of the Democratic Party and its candidates.

All in all a good night, for Republicans.

Democrats Lurch Towards Iowa Caucuses

By David Kamioner | February 1, 2020

With the president’s acquittal imminent, Democrats on the campaign trail in Iowa have turned their bile from him to their fellow prospective November losers.

This is very entertaining for the rest of us. Here are some reports from the ground in Iowa and elsewhere.

  • Sanders has a small lead over Biden in Iowa. But a lot of Sanders’ support is from the under 30 crowd and they may blab to pollsters but they turn out to vote/caucus in relatively small numbers. We’ll see but don’t count Biden out. The caucuses are Monday.

  • Hillary Clinton is clashing with every other Democrat these days. Sanders still loathes her from cheating him out of the nomination in 2016 and trashing him recently.Tlaib and assorted socialists booed her at an Iowa rally on Friday and Tulsi Gabbard is suing her for $50 million. Wow, for poor Hills it seems like an authoritarian psychopath can’t get a break these days.
  • Mike Bloomberg’s campaign put out a campaign video, no lie, that showcased the candidate asking the odd question, “Where is my ice cream?”He gets handed a pint of the dessert, which he then strangely seems to stab with a spoon. After that he, get this, takes a small gopher-like nibble at the ice cream and says, “Big Gay Ice Cream is the best.” I did not make that up…Paging Dr. Freud!
  • After the GOP win on witnesses on Friday, Ted Cruz mocked Nancy Pelosi by doing her little weird clap right back at the Democrats on the Senate floor. Wolverine is just totally cool these days.
  • I know, I know, I’m not supposed to like Kamala Harris. And sure, her politics are odious. But she is telegenic and had to be told, like a high school cheerleader, to stop laughing at a Senate Democrat press conference on impeachment. Gotta at least give her that.

  • And finally, CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin told unhappy fellow CNN pundits, after the GOP Friday victory, that the final verdict of history on the whole impeachment saga would boil down to two words, “Trump Won.” Well, what’s that about a blind squirrel?
