WH Press Secretary Jen Psaki: Even With Impeachment, Biden Can Reach ‘Unity’ With Trump Supporters

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told a reporter that President Joe Biden could still achieve “unity” with 74 million supporters of Donald Trump even while encouraging the Senate to move forward with an impeachment trial of the former president.

Ami magazine’s Jake Turx asked Psaki during the daily White House press briefing, “Does the president believe he can attain unity with the 74 million Trump voters while urging his allies in the Senate to hold an impeachment trial after his predecessor has already left office?”

Psaki: Biden ‘Is Speaking To All Of The American People’

Psaki responded, “Well, the president believes he was elected by 81 million Americans in part because they believed he was somebody who could help bring the country together, unify the country around addressing the crises we face.”

“And when he talks every day, nearly, about getting the pandemic under control, putting people back to work, he is not just speaking to people who voted for him,” she added.

Then Psaki addressed Biden’s approach to Trump supporters.

The press secretary said Biden, “is speaking to all of the American people, including the 74 million who didn’t vote for him.”

How many of those 74 million voters honestly feel like Biden is speaking for or looking out for them?

Psaki continued, “And certainly addressing the pandemic, making, insuring people that don’t worry about the health and safety of their grandparents, of their sisters and brothers, getting kids back to school — that is not a partisan position.”

Psaki Does Not Seem To See A Problem

She then insisted the president was standing up for all Americans.

“That is a leadership position, and one he’s taking because he wants to make sure he’s delivering for all the American people,” Psaki finished.

The Senate proceeded with impeachment plans on Tuesday after a motion by Sen. Rand Paul to dismiss the trial failed 55-45 with five Republicans crossing over to vote with the Democrats.

Paul had raised a point of order on the constitutionality of the trial, given that President Trump is already out of office and is now a private citizen.

John Kasich Tells Don Lemon That Some Trump Supporters Might Still Be Redeemable

Former Ohio governor John Kasich, in an interview with CNN anchor Don Lemon, suggested some Trump supporters “are redeemable.”

Kasich (R), who unsuccessfully ran against former President Trump in 2016 and endorsed Joe Biden in 2020, suggested to Lemon that supporters must confess their sins before being welcomed back into the fold.

In other words, confess that the Capitol riots were as bad as the media portrays and the whole event is all Trump’s fault.

“Honestly, Don, what we have to ask ourselves are, who’s redeemable?” he said. “Who we bring over to say this is — this is just wrong. This never happened this way.”

“And we’ve got to figure out how to talk to some of those people and reach them, Don, and get them back.”

“Some of them are redeemable. I can tell you they are. And you know that some of them are, don’t you?” Kasich continued. “You’ve met them. They’ve gone up to you and said, ‘Lemon, you’re right.'”

John Kasich Tells Don Lemon Some Trump Supporters Are Redeemable

For his part, Lemon wasn’t buying the notion that some Trump supporters are redeemable, as John Kasich suggests.

“How do you reason with unreasonable people?” he asked.

“No matter how many times you show them video of Trump supporters and people – hundreds – 150 or so, or close to it, who have been arrested from the Capitol … that is not living in reality,” Lemon added.

“Why would you even want to reason with those people?”

‘Not living in reality’ is Lemon, who is super-despondent over what happened at the Capitol but denied the reality of leftist-led race riots over the summer.

Lemon suggested rioters setting cities ablaze in the name of racial justice were comparable to American revolutionaries.

“Our country was started because, the Boston tea party. Rioting,” the CNN flak said as footage of arsons and looting were emerging.

“So do not get it twisted and think this is something that has never happened before and this is so terrible and these savages and all of that,” he continued. “This is how this country was started.”

Was Lemon ever taken to task for inciting violence, for voicing support for the overthrow of law and order?

Trump Supporters Need to Be Deprogrammed

Kasich’s argument that some of the “redeemable” Trump supporters could one day see the light is reminiscent of several liberals who have suggested they need to be deprogrammed in some way.

Television personality Katie Couric recently asked, “How are we going to really almost deprogram these people who have signed up for the cult of Trump?”

Washington Post columnist and MSNBC contributor Eugene Robinson, likewise, said Trump supporters are “members of a cult” and that they need to be both “deprogrammed” and “reprogrammed.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued that “white supremacy” is a poison represented by President Trump, then suggested the government needs to “double, triple, or quadruple the funding” into programs that “deradicalize” brainwashed white supremacists.

People like AOC, Lemon, and Kasich don’t want unity, they want you brainwashed just as they have been.

Joy Behar Warns Gaetz To ‘Watch’ Himself In Feud With Liz Cheney – ‘She’ll Eat Him For Breakfast’

Earlier today, we reported that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) were publicly feuding after she voted in favor of impeaching former President Donald Trump.

Now, “The View” cohost Joy Behar is inserting herself into this drama, warning Gaetz to “watch” himself when it comes to fighting with Cheney.

Behar Blasts Republicans 

Behar went after not only Gaetz, but also any Republican senator who votes against impeaching Trump over the Capitol riots earlier this month.

“That anybody in the Senate could look at that, could look at the facts, and not say that he’s guilty, I do not really understand what country I’m living in,” Behar said.

“And you know what, these people who are not going to vote for a conviction will be remembered,” she added. “We will remember them. Because if they let him go without any kind of accountability, Trump, this will happen again.”

“It will happen again,” Behar continued. “We’ll remember those names of the senators and the House people who decided not to convict this guy, because the blood is on their hands then.”

Behar Doubles Down

Not stopping there, Behar said that House Impeachment Managers had delivered the article to the “scene of the crime” on Monday.

“Those people who were receiving those papers, these people, they were all at risk that day and they know it, even those who are going to vote to acquit this guy,”  Behar said. “They know they were at risk.”

That’s when Behar gave Gaetz a warning about messing with Cheney.

“As far as Matt Gaetz and Liz Cheney is concerned, the daughter of Dick Cheney, she’ll eat him for breakfast,” Behar said. “Matt, you better watch yourself.”

This came after Gaetz announced plans to travel to Wyoming to try and “inspire” the state to oust her as its representative.

“In the wake of the Biden presidency, the Republican Party establishment is trying to wrangle the conservative movement back under their control,” Gaetz said.

“They want the GOP to look and sound like Liz Cheney,” he added. “I have a competing vision for Republicanism and I intend to showcase it by going after the America Last politicians in both parties.”

Dead On Arrival: 45 Republicans – Including McConnell – Vote That Trump’s Impeachment Trial Is Unconstitutional

A majority of Republicans – including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell – voted Wednesday that the impeachment trial of Donald Trump is unconstitutional.

Senator Rand Paul forced a vote on the matter.

In an op-ed written over the weekend, Paul (R-KY) called the impeachment process against the former President a “farce” and said it should be dismissed.

“The Constitution says two things about impeachment — it is a tool to remove the officeholder, and it must be presided over by the chief justice of the Supreme Court,” he wrote.

Neither of those elements exists in this case, as President Trump is no longer in office and Chief Justice John Roberts has declined to preside over the trial.

Paul Declares Unconstitutional Impeachment Vote Is Dead

Paul called for a procedural vote regarding holding a trial, claiming the Senate shouldn’t address the article of impeachment against Trump because he is out of office.

In a speech prior to the vote – a speech that went viral – the Kentucky Republican blasted Democrats as “hyper-partisan” and suggested  they “are about to drag our great country into the gutter of rancor and vitriol the likes of which has never been seen in our nation’s history.”

The Senate voted 55-45 to end debate on Paul’s point of order, but the point, in reality, was made. Only five Republicans joined the Democrats, well below the 17 that would be needed for a vote of conviction.

“If you voted that it was unconstitutional, how in the world would you ever vote to convict somebody for this?” Paul told reporters. “This vote indicates it’s over. The trial is all over.”

He later tweeted that the impeachment trial was “dead on arrival.”

Who Joined the Democrats?

Of the five Republicans who voted with Democrats, you had your usual suspects. Typical RINOs who often hide their contempt for President Trump in the cloak of the Constitution, but clearly don’t understand its words.

Susan Collins (ME), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Ben Sasse (NE), Pat Toomey (PA), and Mitt Romney (UT) all voted to table Paul’s point of order.

Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution reads in part:

The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

McConnell, surprisingly, voted against ending the debate.

McConnell has reportedly viewed the Democrats’ effort to impeach the president as a means to “help rid the Republican Party of Trump and his movement.”

A recent poll from Axios-Ipsos shows Republican voters have been siding with President Trump over McConnell on the matter.

A majority have said they do not hold Trump responsible for the Capitol riots, believe he has a right to challenge the election, and still prefer him as their nominee in 2024.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer indicated earlier this week that President Trump’s impeachment trial would be “quick,” adding no decision has been made on the need for witnesses.

Evidence is beginning to point to this unconstitutional impeachment trial as a sham – perhaps even more so than the first one.

The ‘Squad’ Issues Brutal Impeachment Warning – ‘Dangerous Precedent’

The radically liberal “Squad” teamed up on Monday to issue a major warning about what will happen if the effort to impeach former President Donald Trump is not successful.

‘Squad’ Speaks Out On Impeachment

Various members of the “Squad” took to social media to remind their followers about how important they feel it is to impeach Trump in the Senate.

“Nobody is above the law, no matter the person or the timing. Failure to hold those who would incite terror on others to overthrow an election process that has worked for over 230 yrs would set a dangerous precedent,” tweeted Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).

Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), who is the newest member of the “Squad,” got in on the action as well on her own Twitter page.

“The article of impeachment has been delivered to the Senate,” she wrote. “They need to convict Donald J. Trump — and the House needs to pass my resolution to investigate and expel the GOP members of Congress who sabotaged our democracy and incited the insurrection.”

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) posted a quote from the late Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), writing, “‘When we’re dancing with the angels, the question will be asked…what did we do to make sure we kept our democracy intact?’”

Ilhan Omar Chimes In

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), one of the leaders of the “Squad,” responded to a tweet by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) that read, “impeachment is the zenith of cancel culture.”

“Yes, inciting and participating in an insurrection against the US government should get you cancelled, impeached, expelled and jailed,” Omar tweeted in response.

Trump was impeached by the House for a second time earlier this month for supposedly inciting the Capitol riots before leaving office. An impeachment trial is expected to happen in the Senate in the coming weeks.

AOC Speaks Out

Earlier this month, “Squad” leader Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) talked about why she wants Trump to be impeached.

“We have to understand that what happened on Wednesday was insurrection against the United States. That is what Donald J. Trump engaged in, and that is what those who stormed the Capitol engaged in,” she said.

“When we talk about healing…the process of healing is separate, and, in fact, requires accountability,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “And so, if we allow insurrection against the United States with impunity, with no accountability, we are inviting it to happen again. That is how serious it is.”

Trump Supporting MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell Permanently Banned By Twitter Over Alleged Election Misinformation

MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump, was banned by  Twitter on Monday night for reportedly violating the social media platform’s “Civic Integrity Policy.”

Lindell Banned From Twitter

Lindell has reportedly spoken out over the past few weeks to call for an investigation into the results of the 2020 presidential election.

“The account you referenced has been permanently suspended due to repeated violations of our Civic Integrity Policy,” a Twitter spokesperson told CNN.

The policy referenced by Twitter states that the number of violations determines the level of suspension, ranging from an account being locked for twelve hours to being permanently suspended.

“You may not use Twitter’s services for the purpose of manipulating or interfering in elections or other civil processes,” Twitter said of this policy earlier this month. CNN added that these processes include “political elections, censuses, and major referenda and ballot initiatives.”

Twitter did not reveal which of Lindell’s tweets got him banned, but Forbes reported that the social media platform has been “active in using the policy to remove accounts spouting misinformation and conspiracy theories surrounding the U.S. presidential election in the aftermath of the [U.S.] Capitol riots.”

MyPillow Dropped By Various Retailers

Earlier in January, Lindell lamented that numerous retailers had dropped his MyPillow products. These retailers included Bed Bath & Beyond, Wayfair, and more.

“I just got off the phone with Bed Bath & Beyond. They’re dropping MyPillow,” he said of the move. “Just got off the phone not five minutes ago. Kohl’s, all these different places. These guys don’t understand. … They’re scared. They were good partners. In fact, I told them, ‘You guys come back any time you want.'”

Kohl’s defended their decision to drop MyPillow in a statement to USA Today.

“Kohl’s has made the decision to exit the MyPillow brand,” the retailer said. “There has been decreased customer demand for MyPillow. We will sell our current inventory and not buy additional/future inventory in the brand.”

This comes after Twitter and various other social media platforms banned Trump permanently following the Capitol riots earlier this month.

CNN: Biden Says Impeachment Trial ‘Has To’ Happen

CNN White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins reported on Monday that President Joe Biden said a Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump “has to happen.”

Collins reported that Biden made his comments earlier on Monday during an off-camera interview with CNN.

CNN Report On Biden’s View Of Trump Trial: ‘I Think It Has To Happen’

Collins also reports that Biden does not believe enough Republicans will vote to convict the former president.

As it stands, 17 Republicans would need to join the Democrats in order to reach the two-thirds threshold to convict.

Biden had previously appeared concerned that an impeachment process might distract Democrats from his agenda, but also reportedly said there would be “a worse effect” if it did not happen.

“The Senate has changed since I was there, but it hasn’t changed that much,” Biden said.

On Monday night, House Democrats delivered the article of impeachment to the Senate, accusing Trump of inciting the riots in and around Capitol Hill on January 6.

Trump is the first president to be impeached twice, though Republicans opposed to impeachment say the fact that he’s no longer president makes the push absurd, and perhaps unconstitutional.

The trial is scheduled to start Feb. 8.

Biden Concerned Impeachment Could Affect His 100 Day Agenda

Biden’s Monday comments to CNN come in the wake of a statement the president released earlier this month in which he called the House impeachment vote “a bipartisan vote cast by members who followed the Constitution and their conscience.”

10 House Republicans joined the Democrats in voting to impeach.

“This nation also remains in the grip of a deadly virus and a reeling economy,” Biden said at the time.

He added, “I hope that the Senate leadership will find a way to deal with their Constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation.”

But was Joe Biden right the first time – will Democrats’ seemingly relentless impeachment efforts distract them from getting on with the business of the nation?

Particularly when it is doubtful there would be enough Republicans to see this through?
