The Time Is Now: America Needs To End The Poisonous Personalization Of Politics

I was in Washington for the Rally to Save America that President Trump spoke at on Wednesday.

I was honored to be there doing press for the organization that hosted the event, Women for America First. Hundreds of thousands of Americans peacefully gathered to have their voices heard.

The crowd was unlike anything I had ever experienced in my long political life. It was also the most diverse crowd I had ever seen at any Republican event.

Unlike a George W. Bush rally or a John McCain rally or a Mitt Romney rally, this event had white, black, and brown people, it had straight and gay, it had men and women, young and old, wealthy and working class, it was truly America’s melting pot.

I left that rally just as the President was finishing speaking, totally on Cloud Nine. The hundreds of thousands who had gathered had done so peacefully.

I left thinking this was the single most important political event that I have ever attended.

From High To Low

In the time it took me to walk from the Ellipse in front of the White House to my hotel just a few blocks away, I went from feeling like I was on Cloud Nine to feeling like I was trapped in some alternative universe hellscape.

When I walked back to my room, I saw the images on TV.

At first, it appeared that protestors were simply marching up to the Capitol to demand that Congress hear them.

Very quickly it became clear that a handful of bad actors were going to take advantage of this moment to turn a peaceful protest into a disgusting display of violence and anti-American behavior.

What happened at the Capitol is absolutely inexcusable. Violence is never the answer. Period.

What happened in the wake of this inexcusable violence is also very, very wrong.

The mainstream media, the left, and far too many average Americans took the actions of a handful of criminals and attributed them not only the hundreds of thousands who had gathered peacefully – but to the 75 million Americans who voted for Trump.

None of this will serve to heal America, none of this will serve to quell the violence, and none of this will serve to end the divisions that are crippling our nation.

How To Truly Heal America And Our Divisions

What will help? An end to the personalization of politics. Nothing has been more detrimental to the health of our political discourse and nothing has been more toxic than the personalization of politics in this country.

You don’t have to respect politicians, but you should respect your family, your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers, and your fellow countrymen who have different political views than you – even if they support a politician that you don’t respect.

What separates our great American experiment from the broken third-world regimes of the world is that political tribalism doesn’t become personal tribalism.

We can and should disagree strongly about the policies that will shape our future, however, those disagreements should not poison and destroy families, friendships and communities.

There are those on both ends of the political spectrum who benefit from the personalization of politics. They raise money off the disintegration of our country and they sell division. They are ghouls.

No one is guiltier than the American media. They are merchants of division. They believe that optimism doesn’t sell so they gleefully sell fear and hate.

End The Personalization Of Politics

Sadly, we can’t expect the media or politicians to lead the healing of America. The good news is that we the people can do it. The day after the DC rally, I got into a heated on-line debate with a long-time friend of mine.

We have known and cared about each other for 20 years, but we deeply disagree about politics. Rather than simply burn our friendship to the ground, she texted me and asked, “do you have 10 minutes to talk?”

She FaceTimed me and we talked for probably half an hour.

We laughed, we disagreed, we reminisced, we even found common ground. She ended the call by saying, “why can’t more Americans do this?”

The truth is, we can.

President Trump Announces He Will Not Attend Biden Inauguration

President Trump announced Friday morning that he will not be attending the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th,” the president wrote.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Trump vowed that there would be an “orderly transition” of power on the day that Biden’s inauguration and swearing-in ceremony will take place.

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” the statement read.

Despite promising an orderly transition, the President said he would continue his fight against election fraud.

President Trump Won’t Attend Biden Inauguration

The media spin on this will most likely be that President Trump is not adhering to traditions because he is a disgrace to the office. Or that he is in hiding.

In reality, his avoiding the ceremony as tensions run high throughout the country is a wise decision.

The Capitol protests earlier in the week resulted in an unarmed 14-year Navy veteran being shot dead as three others succumbed to medical issues.

Capitol Police also announced the death of Officer Brian Sicknick, who sustained injuries during the violence.

Reports surfaced in November that officials involved in the planning of Biden’s inauguration were concerned his supporters won’t show and they’ll be “left with a mass gathering of Trump supporters in their place.”

Imagine if something like that happened now.

Trump Still Praises His Supporters

Historically, President Trump would not be the first sitting commander-in-chief who failed to attend the inauguration of his successor.

In fact, three incumbent presidents have refused to accompany the president-elect at their inauguration.

John Adams did not attend the inauguration of Thomas Jefferson in 1801 as he sought to return to his wife Abigail following the death of their son.

John Quincy Adams did not attend the ceremony for Andrew Jackson, while Andrew Johnson refused to attend for Ulysses S. Grant, who had made it known that he was unwilling to ride in the same carriage with his predecessor.

Prior to his message regarding the inauguration, President Trump sent out a tweet celebrating the “75,000,000 great American Patriots” who cast their ballots for him.

Those patriots, he said, “will have a giant voice long into the future.”

“They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape, or form!” the President added.

Since the Capitol riots, Democrats have demanded impeachment, removal from office using the 25th Amendment, banishment from social media, and floated the possibility of criminal charges for President Trump.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid Claims Capitol Police Went Easy On ‘White’ Protesters, Ignores Killed Woman

While the entire nation is still reeling from the events on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, MSNBC’s Joy Reid has claimed that Capitol Police wouldn’t have gone as easy on black protesters.

What started out as a peaceful protest by patriots concerned for the future of their nation, suddenly turned violent by the afternoon.

The Capitol building itself was breached by those who came to do nothing but to stir up trouble and commit violent acts. With any luck, those culprits will be brought to justice.

But it got worse than that. People lost their lives.

We can wax poetic about how they gave their lives for their nation doing what is every American citizen’s right to do, protest.

But we are learning that, even at times like this, it all depends on who you are when it comes to whether or not people will be outraged, or even hear about it.

The Mainstream Media Doing What It Does Best

On Wednesday, as the chaos erupted in Washington D.C., the mainstream media, particularly MSNBC, and even more particularly, Joy Reid, did what they, and she, do best: make everything a race issue.

As Capitol Police clashed with protesters, Joy made the observation that perhaps the police were giving the protesters a free pass.

Why….wait for it….because they are white. Yep, you guessed it, the protesters were unafraid of the police because the police feel like the protesters are just like them….or something.

Reid said, “White Americans are never afraid of the cops, even when they’re committing insurrection.”

Joy continued on about how protesters broke in “because they think they own it”.

Racist Cops?

Here is where things get a little sticky for Joy. As everyone now knows, things went from bad to worse by Wednesday afternoon.

As protesters made their way into the Capital building, Ashli Babbit of San Diego, and a 14-year veteran of the Air Force, was shot and killed by Capitol Police.

This is a terrible tragedy that should not have happened. But let’s look at what we know. Ashli Babbit had come from across the country to gather with her fellow Americans, to support President Donald Trump.

The fact is that she was unarmed, and she was shot by police. Why?

Will there be looting and violence on the streets, and people demanding “justice for Ashli”? No, there will not. Can Joy explain why that is?

Why are we not going to hear Joy go on and on…and on about the injustice of it all? Do the differences really need to be pointed out?

Not only is Ashli Babbit a conservative, even worse, she was apparently Trump supporter. Does her skin color factor in? It is the elephant in the room no one will mention. Can Joy pinpoint which of these things causes her life not to matter?

Joy Reid and the rest of the mainstream media goons gleefully reported on every city that burned over the summer and told us all it was because of racist cops. But that will not happen this time.

Ashli Babbit’s family will bury her, and unfortunately, because cops are human and have seconds to make a decision, more unarmed people will be shot. It’s just a fact.

But we now know there are criteria for that story being heard.

Hypocrisy at it’s finest.

Ilhan Omar, Squad Members Call For Trump’s Impeachment, Expulsion Of Republican Lawmakers

Rep. Ilhan Omar said she is drafting articles of impeachment against President Trump and Rep. Cori Bush drafted a resolution calling on the expulsion of Republican lawmakers after the protests at the Capitol Wednesday.

Washington D.C. police report that four people are dead – including Ashli Babbit, an unarmed 14-year Air Force veteran who was shot by Capitol Police – and 52 arrested following demonstrations that eventually breached the Capitol building.

Omar, who called for President Trump’s impeachment earlier in the week over a phone call he had with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, is renewing that call following the protests.

“I am drawing up Articles of Impeachment,” Omar (D-MN) tweeted. “Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives [and] removed from office by the United States Senate.”

She added, “We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath.”

Calls For Trump’s Impeachment, Expulsion Of Republican Lawmakers

Meanwhile, one of the newer members of the Squad, Cori Bush (D-MO) sought to hold Republican lawmakers responsible for the violence at the Capitol for the crime of challenging the Electoral College results.

“I believe the Republican members of Congress who have incited this domestic terror attack through their attempts to overturn the election must face consequences,” Bush tweeted.

“They have broken their sacred Oath of Office. I will be introducing a resolution calling for their expulsion.”

First of all, challenging the integrity of the election isn’t inciting violence.

Second, if ‘inciting violence’ were grounds for removing lawmakers from office Bush would be the first to go, having led protests in Ferguson, Missouri over the justified shooting of Michael Brown.

Bush’s actions exemplify the perils of casting one’s vote for a completely unprepared, completely unknowledgeable person to a crucial office in Congress.

The one-page resolution is no more impressive an attempt than one might expect from a juvenile and has little chance of moving anywhere.

Interestingly, it appears Bush’s resolution was drafted on January 5, the day before the protests.

President Trump’s impeachment, on the other hand, could very well move through the new Democratic Congress despite the short time he has remaining in office.

Motivated By Emotions, Not Reason

The violence that took place at the Capitol on Wednesday was distressing for people on both sides of the political aisle.

Assigning blame to President Trump and pursuing impeachment, or blaming Republicans contesting the election and threatening with expulsion is the work of people motivated by emotion, not reason.

During Trump’s speech at the rally, the President encouraged his supporters to march to the Capitol and protest, but simultaneously posted multiple messages against violence.

“Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement,” he tweeted. “They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!”

In a follow-up message, Trump wrote, “No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law [and] Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue.”

Congress, Journalists Rank Among Worst Professions For Honesty And Ethics According To Survey

A new Gallup poll asking Americans to rank the honesty and ethics of different professions placed journalists and members of Congress low amongst groups such as car salesmen.

Congressional members actually tied car salespeople with a mere 8 percent rating them highly, with advertising practitioners coming it slightly better at 10 percent.

Rounding out low-ranking groups were business executives at 17 percent, lawyers at 21 percent, and journalists at 28 percent.

The top two professions should come as no surprise in a normal year, let alone in the midst of a historic pandemic – nurses at 89 percent and doctors at 77 percent.

Police officers came in at number five, with 52 percent.

With police officers being the subject of defunding pushes by the left and the media, one has to wonder why there isn’t a larger outcry to defund or abolish far more detestable institutions such as the media and Congress.

RELATED: Trump Calls Out Mitch McConnell: Republicans Must Finally Learn To Fight

Members Of Congress Viewed As Unethical By Both Parties

Congressional members – unlike journalists – were universally despised in the Gallup poll regarding professional ethics, with only 8 percent of Democrats rating them highly, 10 percent of Independents, and 4 percent of Republicans.

And why not really? They had a banner year.

A banner year that started with congress focusing almost exclusively on the impeachment of President Trump rather than the coronavirus, which had found its way to America in January.

That was followed up by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ignoring President Trump who had vowed in his State of the Union Address to “take all necessary steps” to protect Americans from the coronavirus.

In fact, Pelosi was too preoccupied with her plan to showboat by tearing up her copy of the address rather than worry about the pandemic.

Pelosi followed that despicable effort by encouraging her constituents to visit San Francisco’s Chinatown in late February – after President Trump banned travel from China to try and stop the spread of the disease.

She would go on to blame Trump solely for the deaths of Americans at the hands of COVID.

Now, you see Republican congressional leaders failing to take the concerns of the American people over election fraud seriously.

Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate Majority Leader, congratulated Joe Biden for winning the presidential election earlier this month and urged his colleagues to accept him as the President-elect.

President Trump responded by giving McConnell a lesson on the mood of the American people.

“Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight,” he tweeted to the GOP leader. “People are angry!”

People are still angry, hence the used car salesperson rating for Congress.

Journalists’ Ethics Aren’t Too Hot Either

While Congress is looked down upon by Americans in both parties, journalists’ ethics are viewed drastically different by Democrats and Republicans.

The only reason the media gets a 28 percent rating is through trust by the left. Which is, of course, no surprise since a vast majority of journalists are card-carrying, bed-wetting liberals.

The Gallup poll shows only 5 percent of Republicans rate the ethics and honesty of journalists highly, while nearly half – 48 percent of Democrats – give them high marks.

Come to think of it, that mark for Democrats is astonishingly low, considering the mainstream media almost singlehandedly gave the presidential election to Joe Biden.

A study conducted by the Media Research Center just weeks after the election suggests biased media coverage may have tilted the results in favor of Biden.

The study consists of an analysis of eight major news stories that the MRC suggests were not covered appropriately, along with a survey of how that coverage affected the election.

It shows that a very significant 17% of Biden voters would have abandoned the candidate if their knowledge of the issues had been different on matters such as his sexual assault allegation, or his son Hunter Biden’s scandal involving shady business deals.

The media and members of Congress rank far lower than President Trump and his administration in regards to honesty and ethics.

Intelligence Panel Republicans: Swalwell ‘Compromised’ by Fang Ties

By Philip Wegmann for RealClearPolitics

In the 21st century, even spies have a social media presence, and while Christine Fang has not been heard from or seen since she fled the United States more than five years ago, the Chinese national still keeps her Facebook account active.

Fang made two posts in November. The first, a candid photo of her face in shadow and light. The second, a picture of the inside of the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, perfectly capturing the “Apotheosis of Washington.

Painted by Italian artist Constantino Brumidi in 1865, the fresco depicts George Washington rising into the heavens and is immediately familiar to every member of Congress.

This includes Rep. Eric Swalwell, but unlike the other members of Congress, the California Democrat is also very familiar with Fang.

The lissome Chinese spy cultivated relationships, some of them apparently sexual, with several local and national politicians and, if anything, her picture now reminds Swalwell not of glory but of his current hellish controversy.

RELATED: Report: Eric Swalwell One Of Several Politicians Targeted By Chinese Spy

Swalwell won’t say whether his relationship with the spy included physical intimacy or disclose much about their shared past. The normally chatty congressman won’t say much of anything.

When confronted by a reporter after a jog Thursday morning, the sweaty former presidential candidate kept his head down as he hustled up the steps of his Washington, D.C., home.

He hasn’t been able to run as easily away from the controversy.

After Axios broke the Fang story on Dec. 8, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy quickly labeled Swalwell, who eagerly sought the spotlight during the impeachment of President Trump, “a national security threat.”

The rest of the caucus has followed suit, with GOP leaders sending a letter this week to Speaker Nancy Pelosi demanding that she remove him from his post on the House Intelligence Committee.

But even if he is removed, which seems unlikely, Republicans say the saga calls into question not just the credibility of Swalwell but the judgment of Pelosi.

It is the perfect curtain raiser for their coming argument in the Joe Biden era that Democrats don’t take threats from China seriously.

It’s a story too tempting to pass up. It reads a little like a spy novel because, well, it involves a spy. An attractive one.

Fang went by Christine in the U.S., enrolling in early 2011 at California State University, East Bay, and quickly took an interest in Bay Area politicians.

RELATED: Top Congressional Leader Calls For Eric Swalwell’s Removal From Congress After Report Links Him To Chinese Spy

By 2014, according to Axios, Fang had developed close ties to Swalwell, then a little-known Dublin City Council member. She showed up at events.

She bundled contributions for him, connecting deep-pocketed donors with his congressional election campaign. She placed an intern in his office.

It was the long game, one that counter-intelligence experts warn China is so good at playing.

Swalwell was an obvious mark. In 2012, he had risen from relative obscurity, defeating an octogenarian Democratic incumbent who had represented the Northern California district since before Swalwell as born.

In some quarters, and certainly in his own mind, Swalwell was seen as a young rising star in Democratic politics.

But in his second term in office, U.S. intelligence took notice of something else. According to  Axios, it gave Swalwell a “defensive briefing” about Fang.

Swalwell reportedly cut off ties. Fang left the country, suddenly, in mid-2015.

RELATED: China Excited About Possible Biden Presidency: ‘We Can Return To Objectivity And Rationality’

The same year, somewhat unexpectedly given his junior status, Pelosi named Swalwell to the House Intelligence Committee, a plum and important appointment given the committee’s role overseeing the nation’s intelligence community, including the CIA.

While his office refused to comment for the Axios story, the congressman insisted he was innocent of any wrongdoing in a brief interview with Politico.

He suggested the story was a hit job from a vindictive Trump White House: “I’ve been a critic of the president. I’ve spoken out against him. I was on both committees that worked to impeach him. The timing feels like that should be looked at.”

He said that he cooperated with the FBI and that “if intelligence officials are trying to weaponize someone’s cooperation, they are essentially seeking to do what this person was not able to do, which is to try and discredit someone.”

Swalwell also predicted that he wouldn’t lose his seat, saying “this goes back to the beginning of the last decade, and it’s something that congressional leadership knew about.”

Swalwell hasn’t elaborated about the nature of his relationship with Fang, and his office continues to stonewall media inquiries. RealClearPolitics’ calls to his office were unreturned.

RELATED: Pelosi Stands By Swalwell Amidst Chinese Spy Scandal

But two Republicans on the Intelligence Committee separately told RCP they don’t want Swalwell anywhere near state secrets.

Sitting on the committee makes members of Congress even more of a target. This changed the habits of Rep. Rick Crawford.

After joining the panel, the Arkansas Republican says he has severely limited the number of meetings he takes with representatives from foreign countries, keeps a closer eye on who comes into contact with aides, and regularly has Capitol Police sweep his office for bugs.

And with good reason: Earlier this year, National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe warned Congress that as many as 50 members have likely been targeted by foreign influence.

Crawford’s reaction to the Swalwell news? “Quite frankly, I am not even remotely comfortable with him in the room,” he told RCP, given the sensitive nature of the material the committee oversees.

Crawford doesn’t make much of his colleague’s insistence that he is working with the authorities: “It’s a redirect. Nobody’s trying to suggest that he’s not cooperating. But being cooperative doesn’t change the fact that you’re compromised.”

What’s more, he added, Swalwell could still be a liability given that “we don’t know the extent to which their relationship might have put him in a position to be blackmailed.”

Another colleague who doesn’t make much of Swalwell’s cooperation is Rep. Elise Stefanik. The New York Republican told RCP that “Swalwell should step down from the House Intelligence Committee and appear before the House Ethics Committee.”

So far that seems unlikely, but Stefanik notes that Pelosi appointed Swalwell and Pelosi can boot Swalwell.

RELATED: Rand Paul: Eric Swalwell Should Resign From Intelligence Committee After ‘Sleeping With A Chinese Spy’

She wants to know why the Democratic speaker even entrusted him with the position given that “this is not a recent infiltration — this goes back to when he was initially running for office when this Communist Chinese spy infiltrated his campaign.”

Crawford and Stefanik and the rest of House GOP caucus are likely to be disappointed. Asked about the Axios story last week, Pelosi responded, “I don’t have any concerns about Mr. Swalwell.”

At the same time, many other Republicans will be delighted.

After listening to Swalwell lambast Trump for his alleged collusion with Russia only a few years after coming in direct contact with a Chinese agent, they are ready to turn the tables.

If he stays on the Intelligence Committee, the GOP stands ready to make him a poster boy. “The situation with Swalwell, just like the situation with Hunter Biden, ties together the biggest weakness Democrats have: That they’re soft on China,” a former White House official said. “This is going to be an ongoing issue for Democrats.”

Pelosi ‘Plans’ To Pull Trump Out Of The White House “By His Hair, His Little Hands And Feet”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said she wants to pull President Trump out of the White House “by his hair, his little hands and feet.”

According to Politico, Pelosi made the remarks about the President on the weekend, during strategy talks regarding how the Democrats can pass the new 5,000+ page coronavirus relief bill that is currently going through Congress.

Pelosi: “I’m Counting Down The Hours ‘Til He’s Gone”

“I’m counting down the hours ’til he’s gone,” Pelosi told her leadership team during a strategizing session saying that she plans to pull Trump out of the White House “by his hair, his little hands and his feet.”

President Trump and Nancy Pelosi haven’t spoken since October last year, when she tried to get him out of the White House for the first time.

That was when she helped launch the impeachment effort against him, and ripped up his State of the Union speech live on television.

A Challenge For Pelosi Within Her Own Party?

Pelosi has been having a tough year.

It seems that time may be running out for Pelosi with her position as Speaker coming under fire by many, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who told The Intercept that they need “new leadership in the Democratic Party.”

Pelosi, a proponent of many stringent coronavirus measures, was caught out earlier in the year attending a hair salon in San Francisco, inside, without a mask, in what many decried as a stunning display of hypocrisy.

She later preposterously claimed that she had been “set up” by the salon.

The House Speaker in October also claimed that CNN, of all networks, serve as “apologists” and propagandists for the Republican Party, in a stunning display of a lack of self-awareness.

RELATED: Congress To Approve Over $1 Billion For Southern Border Wall Along With Coronavirus Relief Bill

Coronavirus Bill Slammed For Including Unnecessary Funding

The coronavirus stimulus bill that Pelosi is trying to pass has come under fire from many across the political spectrum.

Conservatives have pointed out that the spending in the bill is packed chock full of foreign aid projects, while Americans line up for free food.

$10 million will go to fund “gender programs” in Pakistan, Sudan will received $700 million in economic assistance, and $453 million will be provided for assistance for Ukraine.

Similar ridiculous priorities include a condemnation of the CCP’s involvement in the selection of the next Dalai Lama, the building of two new museums for Latinos and women on the National Mall, and a ban on e-cigarettes being delivered by the USPS.

While the rest of the world gets billions of dollars, Americans will only receive $600.

Democrat Senate candidate Jon Ossoff called the payments “a joke,” in another display of serious cracks forming between Democrat leadership and the rest of the party.

CNN: George W. Bush’s Christmas Card Is A Shot At Trump

CNN claims a relatively mundane Christmas card sent out by former President George W. Bush is a shot at President Trump for not accepting the 2020 election results.

“George W. Bush sends holiday card with pointed message as Trump denies election loss,” reads the headline.

The ‘pointed message’ appears to be an image of the Statue of Liberty titled, “Beacon of Hope, 2020.”

The artwork is from a collection that celebrates immigrants.

Here is CNN’s explanation for why this is a shot at President Trump:

“The painting and its title come from a former President who has in the past leveled veiled criticism against Trump’s immigration policies and was one of the first Republican figures to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden on his election win.

Bush’s choice to make the Statue of Liberty central to his card is symbolic of his past critiques of Trump.

The statue was often one of the first sights that new immigrants to America would see as they entered New York Harbor and contains a poem by Emma Lazarus that is famous for its phrase, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

Yes, that’s right. CNN thinks an image of the Statue of Liberty is a criticism of Donald Trump.

While they also seem incapable – still – of understanding the difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration.

A helpful analogy for those still uncertain of the difference – one can walk into a bank and choose to either withdraw money legally or illegally, the latter of which will get you thrown in jail.

RELATED: Trump Wants to Know Why George Bush Didn’t Call For End to Partisanship When He Was Being Impeached

George W. Bush’s Christmas Card

CNN also seems to link the “Beacon of Hope” message itself is for Trump, who has been unwilling to submit to what he believes is a fraudulent election.

“The holiday card from the only living former Republican president comes as Trump and his GOP allies continue to deny his election loss even after the Electoral College on Monday affirmed Biden’s win,” they write.

Bush Has Taken Plenty Of Shots At Trump In The Past

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that former President George W. Bush has been unwilling to level criticism at Trump in the past, it’s just that drawing a line, in this case, seems rather ridiculous.

This past May, Bush made a rare public statement to address the nation during the coronavirus pandemic, calling for an end to partisanship.

The comments made President Trump wonder just where the heck the former President was while Democrats were unfairly savaging him for the previous four years.

The President quoted Fox News personality Pete Hegseth in a tweet Sunday stating, “Oh by the way, I appreciate the message from former President Bush, but where was he during Impeachment calling for putting partisanship aside?”

Trump added his own thoughts: “He was nowhere to be found in speaking up against the greatest Hoax in American history!”

Come to think of it, where was Bush’s ‘Beacon of Hope’ message when Barack Obama and his administration were throwing kids in cages?

Bush went after President Trump at a speech delivered in New York City in 2017, leaving no doubt about how he felt toward the new administration at the time.

Without mentioning him by name, Bush picked apart numerous aspects of a new attitude in America under Trump – and it’s clear he’s not a fan.

“Bullying and prejudice in our public life sets a national tone,” Bush said, and “provides permission for cruelty and bigotry.”

He also surmised that in today’s America, “Bigotry seems emboldened; our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication.”

Bush also attacked the ‘America first’ concept, calling it “isolationist sentiments” and lamented that “we’ve seen nationalism distorted into nativism.”

He added that under Trump, our nation has “forgotten the dynamism that immigration has always brought to America.”

Perhaps if George W. Bush wants to know what a ‘Beacon of Hope’ is, he should speak to his nephew, George P. Bush, current Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office.

George Prescott Bush explained why Trump is a beacon of light against socialism and communism in comments he made explaining why he would be voting for him over Joe Biden.

“President Trump is the only thing standing between America and socialism,” the younger Bush explained.

Hard to remain a ‘beacon of hope’ when the one man preventing socialism from coming to America is about to be replaced by a guy who warned the country was going to enter a “very dark winter.”

Romney: ‘No Evidence’ To Back Trump’s Election Fraud Claims

On Monday, Republican Senator Mitt Romney argued that there was no evidence that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, as President Donald Trump has claimed.

Sen. Romney made his comments on CNBC’s “The News” with host Shepard Smith, in a segment that also included updates on a possible new round of COVID stimulus.

Romney On Claims Of Election Fraud: ‘No Evidence Of It’

Smith noted Attorney General William Barr’s resignation by saying, “He’s claiming fraud, senator, and there’s no evidence of it. Bill Barr didn’t go along with it, and now he’s out.”

Romney replied, “Yeah, well, Bill Barr drew the line. I credit him with once you draw the line, if someone steps over it, you say ‘Okay, that’s the consequence.’ So he’s leaving.”

Both men seem to imply that Barr’s resignation has something to do with Trump’s belief that there was rampant election fraud, but there is no evidence to support that claim as Barr’s motive.

Shepard Smith To Romney: ‘How Much Damage Is The President Doing To Democracy?’

Former Fox News anchor Smith then suggested President Trump was undermining America’s democratic principles.

Smith asked Romney, “How much damage is the president doing to democracy trying to overturn the will of the people?”

Romney responded, “The biggest concern that I have is that people here genuinely believe that somehow this election was stolen, and there’s not evidence of that.”

“The president was saying it was stolen even before election day happened!” Romney said. “He said if he loses, it would be fraud.”

“Well, no one knows that,” Romney continued. “I thought I was going to win too when I ran for president in 2012. I didn’t. I didn’t go out and say fraud.”

“We have a process,” Romney said. “We count the votes. That’s the way it is.”

Romney would add, “I’m concerned that the cause of democracy here as well as around the world — people look to us. We’re the democratic leader of the world.”

The Utah senator then took another dig at Trump.

“What’s going on now, I’m afraid, is terribly dispiriting to people all around the globe,” Romney insisted.

Romney has long been an outspoken “Never Trumper.”

In 2016, Romney launched an unprecedented attack on his party’s front-runner for the Presidential nomination:

Romney was also the only Republican Senator to vote to convict President Trump during his impeachment.

Why The 2020 Election Was Neither Free Nor Fair

By Joel B. Pollak for RealClearPolitics

The 2020 presidential election was neither free nor fair

Much of the debate has focused on the question of “voter fraud” — whether alleged violations of the rules moved enough votes in key states to overturn the outcome, or whether speculative theories about hacked voting machines and software should be taken seriously.

These claims remain unproven.

But while voting is the most important event in an election, it is not the only event, but the culmination of a process.

There are common international standards about what makes an election “free and fair.”

These criteria, summarized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, include: the “absolute” right to a secret ballot; the right to “express political opinions without interference; [t]o seek, receive and impart information and to make an informed choice”; the right of candidates to “equal opportunity of access to the media”; the “right of candidates to security”; freedom of association, and others.

Many of these were violated in 2020.

“Fraud” was not as important as what Democrats were able to accomplish legally, for example, by pushing the country to adopt vote-by-mail on a massive scale.

The scientific basis for doing so was always dubious. South Korea and Israel both had national elections at the height of the pandemic in March and April, and both used in-person voting, almost exclusively.

Neither could be accused of a lax approach to COVID-19.

Never before had the country adopted an entirely new system of voting in the middle of an election, at the urging of one party, and over the objections of the other.

Democrats also sued to lower the safeguards against fraud in absentee ballots.

The attorney leading many of those lawsuits, Marc Elias of Perkins Coie, was also the key figure in hiring Fusion GPS to produce the fraudulent “Russia dossier” in an attempt to smear Donald Trump in the 2016 election.

Democrats preferred vote-by-mail because it allowed them to turn out low-propensity voters.

Republicans preferred voting in person — the standard practice worldwide — partly because of an attachment to tradition, but also because many Republican voters did not trust that mail-in ballots would remain secret or would be delivered at all by postal workers whose union had backed Democrat Joe Biden.

Republicans turned out voters; Democrats turned out envelopes.

Beyond that unfair advantage to Democrats, there were flagrant abuses of the principles that make an election free and fair.

Political violence was widespread, carried out almost entirely by left-wing groups alongside Black Lives Matter protests. Though most protests were peaceful, hundreds were not.

Forty-eight of the 50 largest U.S. cities experienced riots, as did many smaller towns.

Democrats minimized the violence and blamed police, or the president, for the unrest.

With the riots came a national panic that came to be known as “cancel culture.”

Conservatives feared speaking out lest they lose their jobs, their social media accounts, or their lives. A poll in July revealed that 77% of Republicans were afraid to share their political views.

The extreme bias of the mainstream media also suppressed conservative and pro-Trump views.

Media fact-checkers cast Trump as a liar while ignoring Biden’s lies about Charlottesville and much else.

The 2020 election also featured unprecedented censorship. Google manipulated its search algorithm to bury conservative news.

Facebook and Twitter suppressed debate about the coronavirus.

In October, when the New York Post published credible allegations about Hunter Biden’s laptop and emails, which exposed Joe Biden’s past dissembling, Twitter and Facebook both censored the story.

Mainstream media applauded the censorship, and demanded more.

Other factors also made the 2020 election unfree and unfair.

The Commission on Presidential Debates was stacked against Trump, with one moderator caught conspiring with a prominent Trump critic.

An election-year impeachment, based on claims by a “whistleblower” whose very name was censored voluntarily by the press, cast the president as illegitimate.

Former military leaders, like Admiral William McRaven (Ret.), called for his removal, “the sooner, the better.”

Most of these abuses were legal. That is why the results of the election cannot simply be set aside.

When laws were broken — as in the nationwide riots — voters arguably delivered their own verdict, punishing Democratic candidates for the violence and for the party’s waffling on “defund the police.”

But we cannot pretend that what happened in 2020 was acceptable. It leaves many Republicans convinced that the system is “rigged” — even against a “red wave.”

We need to make urgent changes.

If vote-by-mail cannot be reversed, it must be made more secure, or replaced with a secure, 100% American, and politically independent remote voting system.

Political parties must condemn violence unequivocally.

Big Tech must lose its immunity under Section 230, which it has abused. The Commission on Presidential Debates should be replaced.

Above all, “free and fair” must be the standard to which American elections are held.
