NY Assembly Takes First Step Toward Impeachment Of Cuomo, Police Report Filed Over Groping Allegations

The New York State Assembly has taken its first step in pursuing the possible impeachment of Governor Andrew Cuomo, as calls continue to mount for his resignation.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie on Thursday gave the chamber a green light to open a probe which would include full subpoena power.

Democratic Assemblyman Ron Kim confirmed the move to Fox News.

“The Democratic Conference is taking the first step toward impeachment by opening an investigation with full subpoena power to obtain facts and testimonies under oath,” he said in a statement.

Kim, who has accused Cuomo of trying to help cover-up his ongoing nursing home scandal, vowing to destroy his career if he didn’t go along, said he felt the impeachment process could have begun immediately.

“Some members, including myself, argued that we had enough admission to proceed with impeachment today but the conference is leaning toward setting up the process and structure toward impeachment,” he said.

Assembly Sets Forth on Path to Cuomo Impeachment

The Assembly’s actions in moving to possibly impeach Cuomo come as a sixth woman has come forward with sexual misconduct allegations.

The latest claim involves a female aide whose description of events – through a source with direct knowledge – could land in the category of assault.

The Albany Times Union reports that Cuomo “aggressively groped” the woman “in a sexually charged manner” after summoning her to the Executive Chamber.

The incident allegedly involved the Democrat “reach(ing) under her blouse” and fondling her.

“The reports of accusations concerning the governor are serious,” Heastie said in a statement adding, “the committee will have the authority to interview witnesses, subpoena documents and evaluate evidence, as is allowed by the New York State Constitution.”

Cuomo, aside from the impeachment probe, is currently being investigated on multiple fronts by Democrat New York Attorney General Letitia James.

One involves a cover-up in which the administration is accused of hiding data on deaths of the elderly in nursing homes which may have been the result of the governor’s March executive order forcing the facilities to take on COVID-positive patients.

The second is an independent investigation into the numerous sexual harassment claims.

The impeachment probe is not expected to interfere with James’ investigations.

Police Report Filed Over Groping Allegations

Albany police also revealed Thursday they received a report from the New York State Executive Chamber about an incident with potential criminal activity.

The incident, which aligns with the new accuser’s groping allegations, involved a female aide and took place at Cuomo’s executive mansion.

The New York Times reports that the police department has not opened an official investigation, but is offering its services to the alleged victim.

The latest allegations have not only started the ball rolling on Governor Cuomo’s impeachment, but it has also prompted dozens of Democrat lawmakers to call on his resignation.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio responded to the groping allegations as “troubling” and “disgusting,” saying it’s time for Cuomo to resign.

“It is disgusting to me. And he can no longer serve as governor. It’s as simple as that,” he said.

Earlier this week, the New York governor practically dared lawmakers to impeach him.

“Cuomo told [Senate Majority Leader Andrea] Stewart-Cousins he wouldn’t quit and they would have to impeach him if they wanted him out of office,” the Associated Press reported.

59 Democrat New York Politicians Team Up To Demand Cuomo Resign

Things just got a whole lot worse for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) as 59 Democratic lawmakers in his state penned an open letter on Thursday demanding that he resign because of his altering of data on nursing home COVID-19 deaths and the six allegations of sexual misconduct that have been made against him.

Democrats Turn On Cuomo

The Democrats wrote that Cuomo “has lost the confidence of the public and the state legislature, rendering him ineffective in this time of most urgent need.”

“We have a Lieutenant Governor who can step in and lead for the remainder of the term, and this is what is best for New Yorkers in this critical time,” they added. “It is time for Governor Cuomo to resign.”

Forty of the Democrats who signed the letter are members of the New York state assembly, which has the authority to impeach Cuomo.

If they end up calling for Cuomo’s impeachment, they would be just five votes short of the 76 that they need to impeach, since 31 Republicans have already voiced their support for impeachment, according to The Daily Caller.

If Cuomo is impeached, he would be stripped of his powers immediately, and Lieutenant Gov. Kathy Hochul would become acting governor. He would only be able to regain his authority over the state of the state senate voted to acquit.

Chances Of Cuomo Impeachment

Republican Assembly Member Kieran Michael Lalor said that while the letter was “definitely a step towards impeachment,” a couple more things need to happen before these proceedings can begin.

“If you’re a member of the assembly, you’re one of the only 150 people in the world who have the actual mechanism to remove the governor,” Lalor explained. “He’s not going to resign. Unless you’re also calling for impeachment, it’s kind of disingenuous.”

Cuomo has stubbornly refused to resign despite many calls for him to do so.

“It’s the threat of impeachment that gets governors to step down,” Lalor continued. “Calling for resignation doesn’t get governors to step down. All of my colleagues who are saying resign, they should really be saying impeach, and I hope that they will realize that.”

“We’re talking about the deaths of 15,000 vulnerable New Yorkers,” he added, referring to Cuomo’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in nursing homes.

“What could be more important than that? What are we doing in the assembly today, yesterday, tomorrow, next week, that’s as important as bringing justice to the 15,000 people who died and their families?” Lalor said.

Lalor Doubles Down

Lalor went on to say that proceedings to impeach Cuomo can’t begin until State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie allows a vote on the matter. He’s not expecting Heastie to say anything about this until he’s finished negotiating the state’s budget bill, which is expected to be concluded at the end of this month.

“He’s negotiating a budget with a very weak and desperate governor,” Lalor said. “He doesn’t want Cuomo to know, because he’s going to get everything he wants in this budget.”

“If the speaker came out for impeachment, he’d have 76 votes within minutes. That’s a great piece of leverage that the speaker has,” he continued.

“He’s choosing to use that leverage to get his budget priorities rather than using that leverage to check the chief executive, bring justice to the sexual harassment victims, the 15,000 nursing home victims and their families,” Lalor concluded.

Bill de Blasio Calls On Cuomo To Resign After Sixth Woman Comes Forward With Groping Allegations

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign after a sixth woman has come forward with sexual misconduct allegations.

The latest claim involves a female aid whose description of events – through a source with direct knowledge – could land in the category of assault.

The Albany Times Union reports that Cuomo “aggressively groped” the woman “in a sexually charged manner” after he had summoned her to the Executive Mansion late last year.

“They were alone in Cuomo’s private residence on the second floor when he closed the door and allegedly reached under her blouse and began to fondle her,” a source tells the newspaper.

The Democrat governor described the new allegations as “gut-wrenching” but insisted again, “I have never done anything like this.”

De Blasio Calls Allegations Against Cuomo Troubling and Disgusting

Cuomo up until this point has denied all of the sexual harassment claims being levied against him, asserting he simply felt he was “being playful” and that he was “joking,” something even de Blasio (D) wasn’t buying.

“Sexual harassment is not funny,” he fumed. “Who the hell tries to explain that by saying I was just joking around?”

The sixth woman’s claims have really angered de Blasio, referring to them as “troubling” and “disgusting.”

De Blasio called on Cuomo to resign.

“It is disgusting to me. And he can no longer serve as governor. It’s as simple as that,” he said.

Cuomo Won’t Resign

Governor Cuomo has thus far remained defiant, refusing to resign even as alleged victim after alleged victim comes forward to tell their story.

In fact, he reportedly dared one prominent Democrat lawmaker to impeach him if they want him to leave the office.

“We need to govern without daily distractions. For the good of the state, Governor Cuomo must resign,” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins – a Democrat – said in a statement.

Cuomo, according to the Associated Press, engaged in a phone conversation with Stewart-Cousins in which he practically dared her to impeach him.

“In a brief phone conversation Sunday prior to the press conference,” they write, “Cuomo told Stewart-Cousins he wouldn’t quit and they would have to impeach him if they wanted him out of office.”

And that was before the sixth woman had her claims reported.

“The latest report, and the fact that we can talk about how many people are bringing forward accusations, that it’s not one, it’s not two, it’s not three, it’s not four, it’s not five, it’s six women who have come forward, it’s deeply troubling,” de Blasio said.

Added the mayor, “The specific allegation that the governor called an employee of his – someone he had power over – called them to a private place and then sexually assaulted her is absolutely unacceptable.”

Fox News reports “85 members of the state legislature have called for Cuomo’s resignation or impeachment.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) has blasted the former media darling as the “worst governor in America” and called for him to step down.

More importantly, she provides an important reminder that the sexual harassment allegations are one of many concurrent scandals Cuomo is currently facing.

“Governor Cuomo has been enveloped by multiple scandals,” Stefanik said in an interview with Fox News. “First, you have the nursing home scandal and the cover-up, which I believe is criminal. It’s a crime, a federal crime, and an obstruction of justice.”

“We now know that it’s over 15,000 vulnerable seniors who died because of Governor Cuomo’s nursing home edict forcing positive covid patients into nursing homes,” she added.

Secretary to the Governor, Melissa DeRosa, admitted in a conference call that the administration hid information on COVID nursing home deaths from federal investigators.

But it may be the salacious harassment allegations that actually bring him down.

“He just can’t serve as governor anymore,” de Blasio said Thursday.

GOP Rep. Stefanik Demands Cuomo Resign For Harassing Women And ‘Criminal’ Cover-Up

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) spoke out on Monday to blast Andrew Cuomo as the “worst governor in America” as calls continue to grow for him to step down.

Earlier on Monday, Republicans in the New York State Assembly launched an impeachment resolution against Cuomo, saying that he has lost “credibility and trust” and has an “inability to lead” the state after multiple aides accused him of sexual misconduct and his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic was called into question.

Stefanik Attacks Cuomo

In an interview with Fox News, Stefanik stood by dubbing him the “worst governor in America.”

“Well, he has earned that title,” she said. “Governor Cuomo has been enveloped by multiple scandals. First, you have the nursing home scandal and the cover-up, which I believe is a criminal. It’s a crime, a federal crime and an obstruction of justice.”

“You have his most senior aide admit to withholding information from the Department of Justice when they requested information on the numbers of deaths,” Stefanik continued. “And we now know that it’s over 15,000 vulnerable seniors who died because of Governor Cuomo’s nursing home edict forcing positive covid patients into nursing homes.”

Stefanik Doubles Down

“You also have these sexual harassment scandals, not one, not two, but five women have come forward and have shared their personal, horrific experiences of sexual abuse, sexual harassment and sexual grooming,” Stefanik added.

“It’s not just Republicans who are speaking out for his resignation,” she said.  “It’s Democrats as well. And if they really want to take action on behalf of everyday New Yorkers, they need to join Republicans to start impeachment proceedings.”

Not stopping there, Stefanik pointed out that she has been pushing for Cuomo to be investigated for months.

“The Democrats had to really be pushed to call for an investigation,” Stefanik said. “I was the first member of Congress, the first senior elected official to call for an investigation on December 14th when the first victim, Ms. Boylan, came forward. We now know there are multiple accounts. And what’s really interesting is they’re all very similar.

Stefanik Accuses Cuomo Of ‘Preying’ On Women

“This is about the governor preying on vulnerable, much less powerful individuals, oftentimes very young, in their 20s, alone in his office on state government property,” she continued.

“We should take these women’s personal experiences very seriously and I call for his resignation,” Stefanik concluded. “If you look at the governor’s own statement. He has called for fellow elected officials for much less to immediately resign. He’s not following his own words.”

At the time of this writing, Cuomo has still refused to step down, despite bipartisan calls for him to do so.

Cuomo Defiant As Top Democrats Call On Him To Resign: You’ll Have To Impeach Me

Andrew Cuomo remained defiant as top Democrat lawmakers in the state joined calls for him to resign, reportedly telling one they’ll have to impeach the New York governor for him to leave the office.

Cuomo, once the darling of the mainstream media for his handling of the pandemic, finds himself embroiled in scandals on numerous fronts.

The governor issued an executive order in March forcing nursing homes to take on patients that had tested positive for coronavirus, then according to his own top aide, engaged in a cover-up.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal published a report indicating advisers to Cuomo “successfully pushed state health officials to strip a public report of data showing that more nursing-home residents had died of Covid-19 than the administration had acknowledged.”

Making matters worse, the governor has been accused by five separate women of sexually harassing them.

Top Democrats Call on Cuomo to Resign

While the nursing home scandal is far and away the more shocking issue plaguing Governor Cuomo’s administration right now, the sexual harassment claims are causing Democrat lawmakers to take notice.

New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins called on Cuomo to resign Sunday.

“We need to govern without daily distractions. For the good of the state, Governor Cuomo must resign,” Stewart-Cousins – a Democrat – said in a statement.

Heastie – also a Democrat – issued his own statement saying, “I too share the sentiment of Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins regarding the Governor’s ability to continue to lead this state.”

The pair join Democratic State Assemblyman Ron Kim who called on Cuomo to “do the right thing and resign.”

Kim’s target was the nursing home scandal and cover-up, in which he accused the governor of threatening to ruin his career if he didn’t help run cover for Cuomo in the media.

Kim would later call the activity outlined in the Wall Street Journal article “criminal.”

Cuomo: You’re Going to Have to Impeach Me

Fox News reports that, as of Sunday, “a total of 37 lawmakers from either the Assembly or state Senate want [Cuomo] to resign, and 10 have called for impeachment.”

But Cuomo would have none of it, suggesting being forced to resign based only on allegations would be “anti-Democratic.”

“There is no way I resign,” Cuomo told reporters.

“They don’t override the people’s will, they don’t get to override elections,” he said of the lawmakers calling for him to step down. “I was elected by the people of New York state. I wasn’t elected by politicians.”

Cuomo would later dismiss “the premise of resigning because of allegations [as] actually anti-democratic.”

His statement completely neglects the fact that he’s been caught issuing an executive order that led to the deaths of thousands of seniors, then engaged in what state Assemblyman Mike Lawler (R) described as a “criminal conspiracy” to hide the numbers from the DOJ.

Cuomo was so defiant, the Associated Press details a phone conversation he had with Stewart-Cousins practically daring lawmakers to impeach him.

“In a brief phone conversation Sunday prior to the press conference,” they write, “Cuomo told Stewart-Cousins he wouldn’t quit and they would have to impeach him if they wanted him out of office.”

An Assembly Republican-led commission to impeach Cuomo was established in February.

To impeach the sitting governor of New York, the Assembly would need a majority vote in the 150-member body, and the state Senate would need a two-thirds majority of court members to convict.

Democratic Socialists Of America Call For New York Gov. Cuomo To Resign Over Sexual Harassment Charges

The Democratic Socialists of America has called for Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign after three women have come forward to say he sexually harassed them.

To note, this a far-left group that Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez belongs to.

Democratic Socialists Of America To Gov. Cuomo: Resign

Cuomo is getting plenty of heat over these accusations, with calls to resign even coming from his left.

The New York Post reported on Tuesday, “In light of the multiple allegations of sexual harassment by Governor Cuomo, the NYC Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America is calling for the immediate resignation and impeachment of Governor Andrew Cuomo,” the socialist group said in a statement.

The statement continued, citing the three accusers, “We stand with Charlotte Bennet [sic], Lindsey Boylan, and Anna Ruch, who have spoken out about Governor Cuomo’s harassment.”

“Someone so comfortable with abusing his power should not be in leadership of our state,” the group said. “It is abundantly clear that Cuomo’s endemic pattern of abuse and bullying have disrupted and interfered with democratic processes in our state.”

“The people of New York deserve better” the socialist organization emphasized.

Far-left Working Families Party Wants Cuomo Gone Too

This statement comes mere days after New York’s Ocasio-Cortez said Boylan and Bennett’s accounts were “extremely serious and painful to read,” and called for an independent probe.

Not to be outdone on the far left, the Working Families Party also are calling for Cuomo to resign.

“Andrew Cuomo’s reign of fear, harassment, and intimidation cannot continue,” the group’s statement read. “We were horrified to learn of the Governor’s pattern of sexual harassment.”

RELATED: Meghan McCain Torches Governor Cuomo As ‘A Pig And A Pervert’ Over Sexual Harassment Claims

“We have been equally disturbed by the Governor’s response: he did not deny any of Charlotte Bennett’s specific allegations, failed to take any personal responsibility for his actions, and instead blamed his victims,” it read.

“We are calling on Governor Cuomo to resign immediately because he is unfit to serve the people of New York,” the statement finished.

It’s interesting to note that the nursing home scandal did not elicit any calls for resignation or impeachment.

Cuomo continues to get heat, left and right. Is he already done and just doesn’t realize it yet?

Dem Senator Hirono Blames Trump Rhetoric For Alleged Rise In Anti-Asian Hate Crimes

Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) spoke out on Sunday to blame former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric on COVID-19 for an alleged spike in anti-Asian hate crimes.

“You were the first Asian-American woman elected to the Senate, a striking surge in anti-Asian hate crimes here in America. Why is this happening, and what should be done about it?” asked ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos.

Hirono Responds

“It’s happening because we didn’t have leadership at the top, starting from President Trump calling it the China virus and the Kung flu and all of that, which apparently it unleashed this kind of targeted hate crimes among Asian-Americans, and the increase is dramatic,” Hirono replied.

“Just last week in New York, a person who was just walking down the street got knifed. He is in serious condition,” she added. “Soon thereafter, four people walking in New York were knifed. One died. In California, you have incidents of 90-year-old people being knocked down, attacked. That person died.”

Hirono Praises Biden

“So I’m glad that Joe Biden, unlike Trump, has put this issue forward through his executive memorandum, which by the way contains many of the provisions that I put in a resolution that I tried to pass last year condemning targeted hate crimes against Asian-Americans,” she continued.

“The idea is for the attorney general, soon-to-be new attorney general, to work with community groups to prevent and prosecute these kinds of hate crimes,” Hirono said.

“So it’s being recognized by President Biden and that, you know, leadership throughout our country should condemn in no uncertain terms, when you have Asian-Americans afraid to walk down the street for the fear of being knifed, this is an issue that needs to be dealt with,” she added.

Hirono Addresses Cuomo Claims

In this same interview, Hirono called for an independent investigation into the sexual harassment claims that were made against New York’s Democratic Governor George Stephanopoulos.

“The proper response for any of these kind of allegations of reprehensible, inexcusable behavior is to listen to the — mainly women who come forward … and then to do the appropriate investigation and corroboration of the allegations,” Hirono said.

“In the case of Gov. Cuomo, it seems to me that the New York attorney general would be the independent entity to conduct such an investigation,” she added.

Trump Lashes Out At Supreme Court For Allowing New York ‘Witch Hunt’ To Continue

Former President Donald Trump spoke out on Monday to respond publicly after the the Supreme Court rejected his bid to prevent New York prosecutors from obtaining his financial records.

Trump Lashes Out At Supreme Court

“The Supreme Court never should have let this ‘fishing expedition’ happen, but they did,” Trump wrote in a lengthy statement that was released to the press.

This came after the Supreme Court voted to reject Trump’s application to stay a lower court’s order, which allows prosecutors to subpoena his tax, financial, and bank records. This did not sit well with Trump, who blasted the effort of Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. as “a continuation of the greatest political Witch Hunt in the history of our Country.”

“The Tea Party was treated far better by the IRS than Donald Trump,” Trump said, according to The Hill. “This is something which has never happened to a President before.”

Trump Doubles Down

Not stopping there, the former president also ripped the investigation as a partisan effort by Democrat New York officials, including Gov. Andrew Cuomo, to punish him for winning the presidency.

“The new phenomenon of ‘headhunting’ prosecutors and AGs — who try to take down their political opponents using the law as a weapon — is a threat to the very foundation of our liberty,” Trump wrote.

Trump then warned that the ongoing probe imitated those of third world countries trying to punish their political rivals.

“That’s fascism, not justice — and that is exactly what they are trying to do with respect to me, except that the people of our Country won’t stand for it,” he wrote.

Despite his strong feelings on this, Trump made it clear that he has no intention of giving up.

“I will fight on, just as I have, for the last five years (even before I was successfully elected), despite all of the election crimes that were committed against me,” Trump said. “We will win!”

This comes as Trump is preparing to give a speech at CPAC this coming weekend. It remains to be seen if he will touch on the Supreme Court scandal.
