Trump Reportedly Eyes Primary Challenges Of ‘Never Trump’ Republicans Instead Of Third Party

Former President Donald Trump has reportedly, for the moment, put the idea of a possible third party on hold, and is setting his sights on focusing on possible primary challenges to “Never Trump” Republicans, according to Newsmax.

After the inauguration of Joe Biden, it had been reported that Trump had been talking with allies about creating a new third party, the “Patriot Party.”

Aides close to Trump said the third party idea came about after he and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had exchanged words.

McConnell blamed Trump for the deadly riot at the Capitol building on Jan. 6.

Trump Thinking Senate Conviction Not Likely

New York Times Washington Correspondent Maggie Haberman reported that the third party was partly a means to stop Republicans from voting to convict him in the impeachment trial, but Trump does not feel that there will be any impeachment conviction in the Senate.

Seventeen Republicans would be needed to vote to convict in a Senate trial.

Haberman said Sunday, “In last 24 hours, after floating through a few folks that he was considering creating a third-party as a way to keep Senate R’s in line ahead of impeachment, Trump has been talked out of that and is making clear to people he isn’t pursuing it, per ppl familiar w his thinking.”

It has been nearly three weeks since Trump supporters protesting the certification of the electoral college votes stormed the Capitol building.

Many members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans alike, have accused Trump of inciting the violence.

Haberman went on to say, “Trump has started to believe there are fewer votes to convict than there would have been if the vote had been held almost immediately after Jan. 6, the people familiar with his thinking said.”

Possible Primary Targets For Trump

While there is no official word from Donald Trump yet about primary challenges, his son Eric was floating the idea even before the certification vote.

There are several prominent “Never Trump” Republicans in Washington that could make possible primary targets.

Not only is Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in trouble at home and has already gained a primary challenger for 2022, several other Republicans have spoken out against Trump in recent weeks.

Immediately following the violence at the Capitol, Utah Senator Mitt Romney chastised Trump, “What happened at the U.S. Capitol today was an insurrection, incited by the President of the United States.”

Romney also stated that he believes that impeachment could bring “unity in our country.”

The Utah Senator has been famously “Never Trump,” since before the 2016 election.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) also joined in by saying, “The mob was fed lies,” and went on to say that the Capitol riot was “provoked by the President.”

10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump could theoretically fire up Trump supporters for primary challenges. They include:

  • Newly-elected Michigan Rep. Peter Meijer
  • Liz Cheney
  • South Carolina Rep. Tom Rice
  • Washington Reps. Dan Newhouse and Jaime Herrera Beutler
  • Never Trump Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who once considered a third party challenge for President against Trump
  • Ohio Rep. Anthony Gonzalez
  • Michigan Rep. Fred Upton
  • New York Rep. John Katko
  • California Rep. David Valadao

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski said impeaching Trump was “appropriate,” but has not said if she would vote to convict.

Trump Considering Several Future Plans?

There has been much speculation as to what Trump’s future plans might include, besides starting a third party.

Rick Grenell, former Acting Director of National Intelligence and one of Donald Trump’s most loyal Senior administration officials, said that Trump has said told him “personally, numerous times, he does want to run again.”

Grenell also said that “Trump needs the Republican Party as much as it needs him.”

Another possibility mentioned was Trump starting his own media outlet.

A report from Axios in November claims that Trump had told friends he wanted to start a digital media company to rival Fox News.

Many conservatives believe Fox made a huge mistake on election night by calling Arizona early for Joe Biden.

GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Makes Good On Promise To File Impeachment Against Biden

Newly elected Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene on Thursday, President Joe Biden’s first full day in office, officially filed articles of impeachment in the House of Representatives.

Greene introduced the articles in relation to alleged corruption by Biden and dealings he had with the government of Ukraine. The articles allege abuse of Biden’s power as during his term as Vice President.

It also alleges abuse of power in relation to Biden’s son Hunter and his dealings with Ukraine.

Greene stated, “President Joe Biden is unfit to hold the office of the Presidency. His pattern of abuse of power as President Obama’s Vice President is lengthy and disturbing.”

Making The Case For Impeachment

On her Congressional website, Greene has published a press release giving the entire scope of the articles. In her reference to accepting “various benefits,” she notes financial compensation Biden and his son have allegedly received.

The impeachment articles also allege that Biden pushed for dismissal of Ukraine’s top prosecutor in order to benefit his son. Other countries in the West at the time were also calling for the resignation of Mykola Zlochevsky.

In the Senate, Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Republicans on the Senate Homeland Security Committee issued a report stating that the appointment of Hunter Biden to the Board of Directors of the Ukranian company Burisma could have been a conflict of interest.

Democrats Push Forward On Trump Impeachment Trial

Speaker of the House Nancy Peosi (D-CA) announced on Friday that she will send the Articles of impeachment against former President Donald Trump to the Senate on Monday.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer stated, “Make no mistake: There will be a full trial. There will be a fair trial.”

President Trump has hired attorney Butch Bowers for his Senate impeachment trial. Bowers comes as a recommendation by South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham.

In a report from The Hill, as of now, there are only five or six Republican Senators seem likely to convict. A two-thirds majority is required for conviction in the Senate, meaning there would have to be at least 17 Republican votes.

McConnell Put On Notice

There has been speculation on whether or not Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) would vote to convict President Trump.

A recent Fox News article claimed McConnell was “pleased” that Democrats had introduce the latest round of impeachment articles. Another in the Daily Mail cited sources who said McConnell would, “consider a yes vote” in order to “purge” Trump “from the GOP.”

At least one Republican Senator has said that should McConnell vote to convict, “I don’t know if he can stay as leader.” Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said voting to impeach Trump would be a “huge mistake” and “destroy” the Republican Party.

Polls also show that Donald Trump still enjoys strong support from Republicans.

The results of an Axios-Ipsos poll shows that most Republicans nationwide do not think Trump was responsible for the riots in Washington, that he was within his rights to challenge election results, and would vote for him again should he run in 2024.

If Republicans vote to convict Donald Trump in the Senate, the possibility of a permanently splintered Republican Party is very real.

CNN Asks Biden Spokeswoman If Admin Will Deny Access To News Outlets That ‘Lie’ About Biden

On Wednesday night, Biden’s Communications Director Kate Bedingfield was asked by CNN’s Alisyn Camerota if the Biden administration would deny access to news outlets should they decide to “lie” about Biden.

Camerota referred to Biden’s inaugural speech, in which he stated, “Recent weeks and months have taught us a painful lesson. There is truth and there are lies. Lies told for power and for profit.”

Camerota made it clear who she was referring to: “They are right-wing companies, some are more fringe than others, at this point, or more extreme than others.”

Will The Biden Administration Determine Who is ‘Lying?’

In response, Bedingfield said, “Now obviously, if media companies are willfully lying or are not carrying forth straightforward honest information from the president when we make him available, or from administration officials when we make them available, then, of course, that’s something we are going to think about and we’re going to factor in.”

Bedingfield also stated the commitment of her office to, “use all sorts of creative platforms, that we’re going to be able to reach out in all sorts of ways to meet people where they are. We love viewers who watch CNN, but we also love viewers who don’t watch CNN.”

Bedingfield didn’t elaborate what “factoring in” might mean for an outlet that “lies” about Biden.

CNN wasn’t the only outlet with commentary on the First Amendment.

MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace, a former Communications Director herself in the George W. Bush administration, offered up an idea that to avoid the dangers of “echo chambers.”

Under the Wallace plan, a “Republican must assert the truth before they’re allowed to share any other views.”

Wallace likened “fake news” to counterfeit currency, and added that, “If we can protect against counterfeit dollar bills, we should be able to protect against fake news that we now know has the potential to kill people as it did two weeks ago.”

Wallace referring to the violence that took place at the Capitol building on Jan. 6 as Congress prepared to count electoral votes and officially certify the election.

Field Day For The News Media

Also on Wednesday, Biden Press Secretary Jen Psaki held her first press conference.

The White House Press Corps proved their commitment for speaking truth to power and holding government officials accountable.,

One reporter asked what ‘measures’ the press ‘took to ensure that the President is safe’ from lingering Trump officials’ germs.

Another tough question was, “Can you just give us some color about what it was like for him going into the Oval Office? He’s been waiting for this for so long. what was his reaction?”

Perhaps the best window into what’s to come came from this hard-hitting question:

“Will Biden keep Donald Trump’s Air Force One color scheme change?”

Psaki was delighted to engage the question.

The toughest question went to Fox News’s Peter Doocy who posed the question,”So, President Biden wants a theme of his presidency to be unifying the country, does he think that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer should drop a potentially divisive Senate impeachment trial?”

Psaki made sure the American people knew exactly where Joe Biden stood by transparently responding, “His view is the way to bring the country together is to address the problems we’re facing.”

House Republicans Call For Cheney’s Removal From GOP Conference Chair After Impeachment Vote

Over half of House Republicans have called for the removal of Liz Cheney (R-WY) from the Chair of the House GOP Conference.

According to The Hill’s Juliegrace Brufke, Republican aides say that over 115 GOP members are supporting a move to express a vote of “no confidence” in Cheney’s leadership after her recent vote to impeach President Trump.

The vote would be done by secret ballot.

As GOP Conference Chair, Cheney is the third highest ranking Republican in the House of Representatives.

Move To Censure

Currently, more than half of House Republicans are on board with the censure of Cheney. Veteran and newly elected Representatives alike have called for Cheney to step down.

Matt Rosendale (R-MT) said, “Rep. Cheney did not consult with the rest of our conference before supporting impeachment.”

He went on to say that, “She failed to abide by the spirit of the Conference rulesand is ignoring the preferences of Republican voters. I’m calling on her to step down as Conference Chair.”

Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) said, “The reality is, she’s not representing the Conference. She’s not representing the Republican ideals. And I think that’s a problem…I’m not alone in that sentiment.”

Rep. Matt Gaetz said that, “Cheney has left the America First movement.”

Cheney In Trouble At Home

While a formal censure in the House has not yet happened, Cheney’s Wyoming constituents are not happy with her choice to vote for impeachment.

On Tuesday, Carbon County Wyoming Republican Central Committee unanimously passed a resolution to officially censure Cheney.

“Representative Cheney ignored and violated caucus rules by disclosing her intent to join the Democrat Party’s proposed move to vote for impeachment to the media prior to having any evidence presented to the body.

“Representative Cheney did vote in favor of the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump despite the lack of any formal hearing being held, evidence being presented, witnesses being sworn to testify, or accusers being questioned.”

The resolution went on to say that Wyoming voters went to the polls in November to, “express their will, their values, and their stated preference in re-electing President Donald J. Trump by a larger margin, and in greater numbers, than those who re-elected Representative Cheney.”

Carbon County GOP Chairman Joey Correnti came down hard on Cheney, saying she has refused to answer angry constituents regarding her vote.

Correnti said, “People in the county party have attempted to get ahold of Rep. Cheney through email, phone calls-and I think only one person got a response from a staffer and it was pretty short.”

Possible Challengers For GOP House Chair And 2022 Implications

There are several Republicans who have been mentioned, or are actively considering challenging Cheney for her Chairmanship. Among the names mentioned are, Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), and Elise Stephanik (R-NY).

Back home in Wyoming, a possible 2022 primary challenger has already emerged in State Senator Anthony Bouchard (R).

President Trump’s Farewell Speech: ‘We Will Be Back’

President Donald Trump told a group of supporters at a ceremony at Joint Base Andrews Wednesday morning that, “We will be back in some form.”

The President and First Lady Melania Trump left the White House for the final time for Florida and Mar-a-Lago.

“We left it all on the field. What we’ve done has been amazing by any standard,” Trump said. The First lady also spoke.

In a goodwill gesture, Donald Trump said this morning of the incoming administration, “I wish the new administration great luck and great success. I think they’ll have great success.”

Trump also said he had left a note for Joe Biden in the White House.

Trump’s Record Features Many Successes

Always one to tout his accomplishments, mainly because no one else but conservative media would, Trump talked about things such as a new branch of the military, the Space Force, tax cuts, and a pre-pandemic booming economy.

And the Trump administration did do amazing things. The Space Force takes over some duties from the Air Force, a lot of which will have to do with satellite technology, GPS, and intelligence gathering.

The Trump tax cuts were some of the most consequential in decades, and allowed American workers to take home more of what they earned. This helped to create the booming economy. On November 24, 2020, the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached an all-time high of 30,045.84 points.

Unemployment for nearly every demographic also reached all time lows. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, African-Americans enjoyed the lowest unemployment rates since the 70’s.

The Era Of Biden/Harris

But as Donald Trump makes his way to Florida to begin his life as a former president, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris prepare to take office.

For most conservatives, this is a sad day. One that we did not think we would see, at least for another four years.

Already, Biden has promised to reverse much of the success America has enjoyed for the last four years.

This morning, President Trump speculated as to whether or not Joe Biden will raise taxes. “I hope they don’t raise your taxes, but if they do I told you so.” Trump said.

Guess what, Joe Biden already said he would raise your taxes. When someone tells you what they are going to do, believe them.

Biden is expected to unleash 17 executive orders aimed at reversing Trump policies – particularly on immigration.

Do They Really Think Trump Is Going Away?

Donald Trump will spend the next few days or weeks doing what most ex-presidents do, relax and play golf. He has more than earned that.

Most conservatives will no doubt say that they have never seen such hatred and vitriol directed at one man and one family. It was downright pathological.

But the things that the leftist media says about Trump are quite different from what those who know him say.

Over and over one hears about Donald Trump’s energy and his work ethic. Most that have worked with him say they have never seen a man his age with so much stamina. At 74, he puts in a longer day than a lot of people half his age.

The one question that anyone who follows politics is, does anyone think that this is the end of the political road for Donald Trump?

Does the left really think that he is just going to live out his days, peacefully and quietly at Mar-a-Lago, surrounded by grandchildren?

A good guess might be… not a chance.

There has been plenty of speculation about the next political moves for Donald Trump. One theory is that he might start his own media empire.

In a report from Axios in November, Trump talked about starting his own media company as competition for Fox News, who called Arizona early on election night for Joe Biden, and may have swung the election to the Democrats.

Third Party Chatter

During that last days of his administration, Trump has been at odds with members of the Republican Party, including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has been rumored to support impeachment.

There seems to be increasing speculation that Trump may want to start a third party. There is no doubt that 74 million people feel that rampant voter fraud took place in 2020, and that their votes were thrown out.

There is also increasing anger at the Republican Party, who most of those 74 million feel have abandoned them to play go-along-to-get-along with a Democrat Party who will control the federal government. The phrase “uniparty” is being tossed about a lot.

Could the ‘Patriot Party’ gain traction in a country where third parties have not done well?

With 74 million people who the Democrats call racists and white supremacists every chance they get, and a Republican Party whose current leaders want to go back to the pre-Trump days of the McCain-Romney-McConnell “lose with honor” strategy, the Patriot Party with Donald Trump at the helm just might have a fighting chance.

As he left for Florida, Donald Trump said, “We love the American people,” and that being president had been “the honor of a lifetime.”

He ended his remarks by saying, “I just want to say you are amazing people. This is a great country. It has been my greatest honor and privilege to be your president. I will always fight for you.”

It might be that a good chunk of the American people are not done fighting for Donald Trump, either.

McConnell Turns On Trump Again: Says Trump Responsible For Capitol Violence

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday accused President Donald Trump and his supporters of spreading inaccuracies and lies about the election that led to the January 6 riots in Washington D.C.

McConnell went on to accuse Trump and his supporters of provoking the violence and acts of vandalism. Five people died during the chaos that broke out during the certification of the electoral votes.

“The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the President and other powerful people. And they tried to use fear and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the Federal Government which they did not like. But we pressed on,” McConnell said.

To Impeach Or Not To Impeach

Trump was impeached for a second time on January 13 as the House of Representatives charged him with “incitement to insurrection.”

RELATED: Liz Cheney Voting To Impeach Trump Backfires On Her As She’s Censured By Wyoming Republicans

The Impeachment process now moves to the Senate.

Questions have surrounded any future trial, including if a former president could be impeached.

One of the biggest questions has been whether or not McConnell would vote to impeach.

McConnell has not ruled out a vote to impeach. Mike Allen, founder of Axios, and former Politico Playbook Editor, says there is a “50-50 chance” McConnell will vote “yes” in order to “consider his own legacy and defend the Senate and the institution.”

McConnell Not A Dependable Ally

Should Mitch McConnell go ahead with an impeachment trial, it would not be the first time that he has gone against Trump.

In the days following the protests and violence at the nation’s Capitol, when members of Congress clamored for removing the president by way of the 25th Amendment, a report from Fox News claimed that McConnell was “done” and “furious” with the president.

The Fox News article also claimed that McConnell was “pleased” that Democrats in the House had introduced the articles of impeachment.

In another article, The Daily Mail had cited sources who said McConnell could consider a “yes” vote on impeachment, citing his desire to “purge him from the GOP.”

McConnell Rebukes Republicans For Defending Trump

As the Senate began to take up certification of electoral college votes, McConnell warned those in his own party not to engage in objections to the electoral college.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) were vocal opponents of electoral college certification.

At the time, McConnell argued that a vote count challenge would be “terrible” for Republicans because they would “have to vote it down,” thus making them appear to be against the president.

RELATED: Mitch McConnell Blasts Republican Senators Who Challenge Electoral College Results

At the beginning of January, the Senate also voted to override Trump’s veto on the defense bill, known as The National Defense Authorization Act.

The bill would have included pay raises for American soldiers and equipment upgrades, but did not include a repeal of section 230, a law that protects internet companies for bring liable for what is posted by them or third parties.

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said that he would delay a quick vote for the final override unless McConnell brought a vote for $2000 stimulus checks to the floor, the vote was never brought, and the Senate voted to end debate on the veto override that afternoon.

A source close to McConnell reportedly said that, “The Senate institutional loyalists are fomenting a counterrevolution” to Trump.

McConnell seems to be prepared to do what he indicated, and that is to “move forward.”

D.C. Mayor Bowser Tells People To Avoid Biden Inauguration

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has asked that Americans not come to the nation’s capital for the inauguration of president-elect Joe Biden on Wednesday.

The Secret Service has begun its preparations early, and the National Guard has had a very visible, heavy presence.

More Security Being Brought In

Roughly 25,000 Guard Troops are assisting in beefing up security around the Capitol in the aftermath of protests and violent riots in Washing D.C. on Jan. 6 during Congress’ certification of the 2020 presidential election.

Bowser has asked for and received a pre-disaster declaration for Washington D.C. by Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, and President Trump himself.

Bowser has also asked President Trump for public gathering permits to be cancelled between Jan. 10 and Jan. 24.

Secretary Wolf had also instructed the Secret Service to begin National Special Security Event Operations on Wednesday Jan. 13 instead of Jan. 19.

Government Claims Credible Threats

The increased security comes not only in response to last week’s violence, but also because of FBI bulletins reporting that “Armed protests are being planned in all 50 state capitols from 16 January, through at least 20 January, and at the US Capitol from 17 January through 20 January.”

According to a report from ABC News, the FBI has also received information about a group calling for “storming” state, local, and federal government courthouses and administrative buildings in the event President Donald Trump is removed from office prior to Inauguration Day.

The FBI also says that the same group is planning to “storm” government offices in every state the day President-elect Joe Biden will be inaugurated, regardless of whether or not the state certified electoral votes for Biden or Trump.

Currently, the FBI is attempting to identify the people who illegally entered the Capitol building and assaulted law enforcement officers. Approximately 29 of those individuals have been identified since Sunday.

President Trump Again Denounces Violence

Prior to being impeached, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said that “Justice would be served.”

Hours after he was impeached for a second time, President Trump put out a video where he once again condoned violence of any kind.

In the 5 minute video, Trump stated, “Mob violence goes against everything I believe in, and everything our movement stands for. No true supporter of mine could endorse political violence.”

Speaking at a news conference on Monday, Bowser said she was afraid for our democracy. “We have very extreme factions in our country that are armed and dangerous. She went on to say that, “Trumpism won’t die on January 20.”

Rep. Omar’s brand of justice may come in the form of making sure another outsider never steps foot inside the White House, because ‘Trumpism’ will not be dead on January 20.

Democrats Drafting Bill To Prevent Anything Being Named After President Trump

As Democrat lawmakers celebrate their vote to impeach President Trump a second time, several of those lawmakers are attempting to take things one step further.

Representatives Linda Sanchez (D-CA) and Joaquin Castro (D-TX) are working on a bill that would prevent the naming of anything – including schools, highways, or federal buildings – after the 45th President.

Democrats Trying To Erase History?

Sanchez claimed that her presence in the House Chambers last Wednesday as violent protests broke out in the Capitol building is the catalyst for drafting the legislation.

RELATED: Dem Rep. Swalwell Compares President Trump To Osama bin Laden

“I am working on a bill that would mean that nothing-not even a bench, no airport, no highway, no school-nothing-ever bear the name of this traitor.”

In a statement, Congressman Castro said that, “President Trump incited and insurrection that damaged some of our nation’s most significant and sacred federal property. Donald Trump should never become a future generation’s confederate symbol.”

Sanchez claims that, the night before the protests, she called her husband to tell him where her will was. The security alerts came around 1:15 pm on Wednesday afternoon.

In an interview with “People” Magazine, Sanchez says that, “Something told me, ‘You better leave.'”

Both Sanchez and Castro voted for the second impeachment of the president.

RELATED: CNN’s Jake Tapper: GOP Needs ‘Political Exorcist,’ Republicans ‘Clearly Have Lost Their Minds’

In addition to calling Trump a “traitor,” Sanchez went on to say, “I don’t think he deserves any of the benefits that are conferred on prior presidents. I don’t believe that a seditious occupant of the White House should ever have anything named after him.”

If Not Impeachment, Then The 25th Amendment

Sanchez is also among a number of Congressmen and women who would like Trump removed via the 25th Amendment, which would strip the president of his powers.

However, she says she is not optimistic of that prospect. “Given that those around Trump have never stood up to him, I have a hard time believing that they will meet this moment with the, with the appropriate response. So we have also signed onto articles of impeachment to try to remove him.”

Julian Castro, Brother of Joaquin and former presidential candidate,  is in total agreement with his twin. he tweeted out, “I gave him that idea.”

Both Castro brothers, natives of Texas, have also called for Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) to resign due to his and other Republican legislators objections to last week’s electoral college certification.

“He has conducted himself shamelessly, and I think he has done this because he believes it’s the only way, the only chance, the only chance he has to win the Republican nomination for president.”

Democrats Split On When To Send Impeachment To The Senate For Trial

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has not given any definite indication on when the article of impeachment against President Trump, passed by the House on Wednesday, might make its way to the Senate for any possible trial.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) is urging that the latest round of impeachment articles, accusing President Trump of “inciting and insurrection,” be sent to the upper chamber “as soon as possible.”

RELATED: If Republicans Put America First, They’ll Remove Liz Cheney, Not Donald Trump

Would The Senate Reconvene In Time For A Trial?

There is confusion in the Senate as well. Currently, the body is scheduled to reconvene on Jan. 19, the day before President-elect Joe Biden takes office.

There is only one day, a pro forma session, scheduled before the official reconvening on Jan. 19.

The Senate is not allowed to do any business on that day without unanimous consent.

A 2004 resolution gives Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer the power to reconvene the Senate without unanimous consent which would create an emergency session.

McConnell has said that he would not invoke this resolution, but Schumer may put the pressure on to do it.

As it stands now, unless McConnell calls a special session, the Senate would not receive any articles of impeachment before Jan. 19, and a trial would not begin before 1pm on either Jan. 20 or 21, making Donald Trump at that time the ex-president.

However, Chuck Schumer has stated, “But make no mistake, there will be an impeachment trial in the United States Senate.”

RELATED: House Democrats Wonder If Capitol Attack Was An ‘Inside Job’

Is Impeaching An Ex-President A Wise Use Of Senate Time?

This would put the United States Senate in a precarious situation. Should the trial move forward, the Senate at that point is committed to completing the process.

This puts other priorities, such as Biden administration nominees and COVID relief, on hold.

Biden has urged the Senate to do their “Constitutional responsibilities” while also attending to “other urgent business.”

There is also some question as to whether or not an ex-president can be impeached once he is a private citizen.

The United States Constitution provides for the process of impeachment, but says nothing about the timing of when the trial can take place.

What Exactly Is The Urgency About?

On Wednesday, Pelosi called the president, “a clear and present danger” as she urged members of the House to support impeachment.

But there seems to be some confusion there as well.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) said on Sunday that it may not be until after Biden’s first 100 days in office before the House would send the articles of impeachment to the Senate.

RELATED: James Clyburn Admits House Democrats May Not Send Articles Of Impeachment To Senate Until After Biden’s First 100 Days In Office

But the urgency may be about more than a trial and conviction rather than how fast the articles of impeachment would reach the Senate.

According to reports from Vox, there is talk among Republicans that this second impeachment, and any subsequent trial and conviction, could bar Trump from ever running for office again.

AOC Goes Wild On Instagram Live Video: Republicans Only Care About ‘White Supremacy,’ Trump Cabinet Has ‘Blood’ On Their Hands

In an Instagram live video, far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) made wild claims on the eve of a second impeachment vote against President Donald Trump.

The leader of the “Squad” of far-left Democrats touched on the recent riots at the Capitol, voter suppression, and “white supremacy.”

Trump Cabinet Members ‘Have Blood On Their Hands’

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez attacked several of President Trump’s Cabinet members as being complicit in the violence at the Capitol on January 6th.

She accused former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, the wife of Senate majority Leader Mitch McConnell, of engaging in a conflict of interest for holding that position, without explaining why.

She also stated that former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Chao had resigned rather than “fulfilling their duties in acting the 25th Amendment and removing the president of the United States.”

Not only had both Chao and DeVos denounced the violence at the Capitol, it was the reason for their resignations.

She stated that Cabinet members “think that resigning will clean the blood off their hands,” referring to the five people that died in relation to Wednesday’s violence:

“Those five people’s blood is on your hands. What are you going to do? And they think that resigning is going to clean that blood off their hands. It is always on them. They are forever stained with the deaths of five people, especially when they did not invoke the 25th Amendment to remove this president when they had the power to do so.”

She blamed the Trump administration for children of those coming across the border illegally being ‘held in cages.’ This was a practice started in 2014 by the Obama administration.

She also accused Republicans of not caring about the Capitol Police officers who were killed during the riot, and using “blue lives matter” as merely a slogan.

In her rant, she claimed that Republicans don’t really care about the law or police, but rather “white supremacy.”

“I don’t want to hear or see the Republican Party talk about blue lives ever again. This was never about safety for them. It was always a slogan, because if they actually cared about rule of law they would speak up when people break the law. They would speak up. They would enforce fairness and equity but they don’t give a damn about the law. They don’t give a damn about order. They don’t give a damn about safety.

“They give a damn about white supremacy. They care about preserving the social order and the mythology of whiteness than the grandeur of our democracy.”

Ocasio-Cortez is a vocal advocate of the “defund the police” movement.

Voter Suppression?

Interestingly, AOC made several eye-brow raising comments calling into the question the integrity of the election.

Speaking of Republicans, she said:

“That’s what they care about. They lust for power more than care about democracy. That’s what those people did when they voted to overturn the results of our free and fair elections and you can barely call them that with the amount of voter suppression that they have engaged in across the country. It is generous to say the least, to call them that.”

Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez continued on that theme by declaring that Georgia and other southern states “are not red states, but suppressed states” that “must be liberated to heal.”

Her claims of unsubstantiated voter suppression come after historic turnout in the 2020 presidential election.

“We’ve got to organize. And I think what we saw in Georgia is a really good example of black women leading the way, with multiracial and multicultural organizations leading the way, um, they proved that southern states are not red  states. They are suppressed states. which means that the only way our country is going to heal is through the actual liberation of southern states, the actual liberation of the poor, the actual liberation of working people-from economic, from social, and racial oppression. That’s the only way, that’s the only way.”

Biden’s “Controversial” Cabinet Picks

AOC hasn’t limited her criticisms to Republicans, though. She has also leveled complaints against Joe Biden’s cabinet picks since Election Day.

Ocasio-Cortez and other members of “the Squad” are upset at the nomination of Bruce Reed, who is described as a moderate “deficit hawk.”

Reed was announced on Tuesday as the presidential deputy chief of staff by the Biden transition team.

In a petition shared among progressives, it states, “Putting someone in the administration who will prioritize paying down the deficit ahead of all other concerns in charge is a recipe for cutting our earned benefits and turning the COVID recession into a depression.”

Progressives are also becoming increasingly alarmed that Biden’s Cabinet are those who have spent substantial time at America’s biggest corporations, Washington D. C., and Wall Street.

Ocasio-Cortez called it a, “revolving door of corporate insiders.”

During the campaign, the Biden team made it appear as though the progressive wing of the party would have a substantial seat at the table.

If there are more nominations such as Bruce Reed, progressives may continue to be disappointed.
