It’s Time to Get the National Guard Off of Capitol Hill

House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) went on MSNBC on Thursday to attack the Republican Party, saying that the GOP is now a Trump cult with no ideology or principles.
“Congressman Schiff, do we need to start having a serious conversation not just about Donald Trump being a bad guy, but about the Republican Party becoming a radicalized anti-democratic institution?” asked host Joy Reid.
‘Because you can’t have a regular party like the Democrats who have their flaws, and we can have an issue with them and a party that is willing to seize the power by force?” she added. “Because that’s what that sounded like it to me.”
“That’s absolutely right. I think the managers they’re talking about Donald Trump because he’s the one on trial, and that makes perfect sense, but there are broader, serious problems with the GOP right now as a party,” Schiff replied.
“It has really become a cult of personality around the president,” he said. “It doesn’t have an ideology anymore. It doesn’t have principles anymore.”
“It’s willing to welcome in white nationalists and QAnon conspiracy theorists and people who use violence if they don’t get their way,” Schiff added. “That party needs to come to grips with what it’s become. It needs to be a party once again that stands for something and not just the cult around Donald Trump.”

Democrats are trying to impeach Trump in the Senate, claiming that he incited the Capitol riots last month. If they succeed, Trump will not be allowed to run for office again in the future.
This is far from the first time that Schiff has accused the Republican Party of being “a cult.” At the end of January, he said that “the GOP leadership is becoming little more than a cult and a dangerous cult.”
Schiff went on to blast House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for visiting former President Donald Trump at Mar-A-Lago this week.
“That is sadly where the GOP leadership is at in Congress, and that’s part of the reason why the Capitol looks like an armed fortress right now,” Schiff lamented.

Now that Donald Trump’s crack legal team is doing such a bang-up job, I thought I’d help them out with their very own video presentation. The Democratic impeachment managers have put video to good use in Trump’s second impeachment trial, why can’t the defense team do the same?
Um, maybe because they have no case and Trump is guilty as sin? Never mind that, though, the Inciter-in-Chief is nearly certain to avoid conviction thanks to the morally bankrupt Trumpist Republicans in the Senate.
When around half of the Republicans who will help decide Trump’s guilt or innocence pushed the very conspiracies and lies that sparked January’s attack on the Capitol, it doesn’t look like conviction is in the cards. And, yes, I think those Republicans should be impeached as well. (See: Fourteenth Amendment.)

Embattled pro-Trump Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed the media Thursday prior to a vote by the House on whether or not to strip her of her committee assignments.
Greene has come under fire for statements she made prior to being elected to Congress, many of which were deemed by Democrats and the media as racist and anti-Semetic.
In her speech, Greene was quick to call out the media and turn the tables on her accusers, saying, “Will we allow the media, that is just as guilty as QAnon, of presenting truth and lies to divide us?”
She began her speech saying that she had not really had a chance to get to know most of her colleagues, and they may have a warped view of her due to extensive media narratives: “You only know me by how Media Matters, CNN, MSNC, and the rest of the mainstream media is portraying me.”
“Any source of information that is a mix of truth and lies is dangerous,” Greene went on to say, “Big media companies can take tiny bits of what we say, and portray us as someone we are not.”
She spoke of wanting to work with all members of Congress, but stated, “it should always be America first, there is nothing wrong with that.”
.@mtgreenee: “If this Congress is to tolerate members that condone riots that have hurt American people… but yet wants to condemn me and crucify me in the public square for words that I said and I regret a few years ago, than I think we are in a real big problem.” pic.twitter.com/oQK1itjbIx

Greene also expressed regret over some of her past comments in support of QAnon.
“I was allowed to believe things that weren’t true and I would ask questions about them and talk about them, and that is absolutely what I regret.”
Currently, Rep. Greene sits on the Education and Labor and Budget committees.

Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has taken heat recently for Greene’s comments, and Democrats have demanded some sort of reprimand of Greene by McCarthy.
Leader McCarthy and the freshman member of Congress held a 90 minute meeting on Wednesday, but little is known about what was discussed.
Democrats had stated that if McCarthy was unwilling to take action regarding Greene, that they would consider voting to strip her of her committee assignments.
It’s not just me they want to cancel.
They want to cancel every Republican.
Don’t let the mob win.

Several GOP members rose to her defense at the meeting, such as House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (R-AZ).
The Democrats’ moves to strip Congresswoman Greene of her committee assignments for thoughts & opinions she shared as a private citizen before coming to the House is unprecedented and unconstitutional, & these steps are a dangerous slope for our nation. https://t.co/35Gpk1Ndgo

Still, Greene wasn’t believed with what she viewed as a lack of support from her own party’s leadership.

Marjorie Taylor Greene may get stripped of her committee assignments, but she can safely say that she has gotten help from her Democrat colleagues.
Because of the Democrats’ threatened punishment, Greene has gotten a steep boost in fundraising.
As of Wednesday, Greene had raised $175,000. In a tweet, she thanked all who had donated. And in yet what may be described as yet another controversial comment, Greene stated that, “They are attacking me because I am one of you. We will not back down. We will never give up!”

Earlier this week, we reported that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had slammed her Republican colleagues as the “enemy within the House.” Now, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) is speaking out to let Pelosi know that she feels this was inappropriate of her to say.
Pelosi used her weekly press conference on Thursday to shame Republicans, saying, “I do believe, and I have said this all along, that we will probably need a supplemental for more security for members when the enemy is within the House of Representatives, a threat that members are concerned about in addition to what is happening outside.”
When asked what she meant by “the enemy” within, Pelosi doubled-downed by saying, “It means that we have members of Congress who want to bring guns on the floor and have threatened violence on other members of Congress.”

Gabbard went on “The Ingraham Angle” on Friday night to slam Pelosi for these comments.
“This kind of broad, inflammatory rhetoric is like throwing a match into the tinderbox,” Gabbard said of Pelosi’s remarks. As for Pelosi’s claim that Republican lawmakers threatened “violence on other members of Congress,” Gabbard called for Pelosi to get law enforcement involved if the threats are legitimate.
“What Speaker Pelosi is talking about is a very serious thing,” Gabbard told Fox News host Lauran Ingraham. “If there is evidence to back what she is saying … is true, this is a legal issue for law enforcement. Because members of Congress are not above the law either.”
“Isn’t this also inciting?” Ingraham asked. “If you think there is someone among the Republican caucus who’s actively plotting the murder of Nancy Pelosi or other members of Congress, that could then bring violence upon those individuals.”
“That’s really the issue here. If this is a criminal threat, let law enforcement deal with it,” Gabbard replied. “If there is no evidence of what she is talking about, and if it is not true, it is inciting further division and further harm potentially and further destroying the possibility of our country coming together.”

Not stopping there, Gabbard issued a challenge to Pelosi.
“This is why it’s so important for Nancy Pelosi – again if these accusations are baseless – she needs to apologize, not so much to her colleagues but really to the American people who right now, more than ever, need leadership coming from the speaker of the House, who represents all members of Congress and the American people to bring us together,” she said.
“For her and President Biden to deescalate these tensions, to turn down the temperature, to denounce those who are seeking to undermine our civil liberties and our constitutional rights, and who are inflaming these tensions,” Gabbard continued. “To say, ‘Hey, we’re all Americans, and we need to come together.'”
Ingraham then questioned if Democrats were trying to weaponize the Capitol riots that took place earlier this month “to justify future encroachment on civil liberties.” She added that Democrats may be “setting the stage” for “aggressive gun control,” putting a “wall around the Capitol,” or making Washington, D.C. a state.
“I share your same concerns,” Gabbard said in agreement, reasoning that if the “party in charge can extend this kind of government overreach and using the military and intelligence agencies against people who are of the opposing party or hold different views, then what’s to say the next party who comes in and takes charge can’t do the same? That really leaves us with a banana republic, not a democracy.”

Two Republicans from Ohio have launched an effort to make June 14 “President Donald J. Trump Day” in their state.
State Reps. Reggie Stoltzfus of Paris Twp. and Jon Cross of Kenton are reportedly preparing to introduce a bill in the Ohio House of Representatives to make this holiday, according to the Ohio Capital Journal.
June 14 is both Trump’s birthday and Flag Day. Stoltzfus and Cross said that the bill is meant to show the three million Ohioans that voted for Trump “that we as a legislature recognize the accomplishments of his administration, and that the Ohio House believes it is imperative we set aside a day to celebrate one of the greatest presidents in American history.”
“(Trump) personified the emotions of millions of Ohioans who for too long have felt marginalized by our government and the American political system,” they added.
“While the media tarnishes his achievements and his legacy, the legislation will help ensure that for one day each year the voices of millions of people from all corners of our state will be commemorated,” they said.
Rep. Jeff Crossman (D-Parma) told The Columbus Dispatch that he felt the date would be “disrespectful.”
“I don’t like the idea of changing an existing federal holiday that honors the flag,” Corssman said.
This comes after the Washington Post published a piece by “art and architecture critic” Philip Kennicott calling for Trump to not be given a presidential library.
“Trump must never have an official presidential library, and Congress should move quickly to make sure he never will,” Kennicott wrote, adding that Trump cannot be trusted to handle documents relating to his presidency, because he “mixed public and private interests.”
He went on to say that Trump may use his presidential library to brag about his success, which should not be allowed.
“The danger of Trump using a presidential library to burnish his image is far more serious, with the ex-president and his surrogates still promoting the idea that his electoral loss was somehow fraudulent,” Kennicott said.
“That creates an ongoing uncertainty in American public life, which Trump and even more unscrupulous actors will use to further division, inflame tension, exacerbate racism and delegitimize the American democratic system,” he added.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) blasted the Republican Party as a “dangerous cult” after it was reported that names of Democrat lawmakers were found on a list on the person of a man who was caught near the U.S. Capitol with a gun and ammunition.
Police arrested the 71 year-old man at the Capitol on Wednesday for possessing a pistol without a license after he was caught shouting at guardsmen. Officials said afterwards that the man had been at the Capitol riots and had posted memes related to the QAnon conspiracy theory on social media.
Schiff wasted no time in using this to fuel his own agenda as he attacked Republican leaders after CNN found several Facebook posts from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) calling for the execution of Democratic leaders.
“You look at some of these members, including Representative Greene, who have threatened on social media prior to her election other members of Congress,” Schiff told CNN host Wolf Blitzer.
“You have members like her who have suggested that attacks against students, murderous attacks on high school campuses like at Parkland were somehow fake, fraudulent, or false flag operations,” he added. “And they’re being rewarded by [House Minority Leader Rep.] Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) with assignments on the education committee!”
“You know, the GOP leadership is becoming little more than a cult and a dangerous cult,” Schiff continued.
Greene has already responded by saying that the controversial posts were actually written by members of her team, and that she does not endorse them.
Schiff went on to blast McCarthy for visiting former President Donald Trump at Mar-A-Lago this week.
“That is sadly where the GOP leadership is at in Congress, and that’s part of the reason why the Capitol looks like an armed fortress right now,” Schiff lamented.
Schiff added that he is disappointed at the permanent fencing being erected around the Capitol after the riots earlier this month.
“It’s just awful to see the necessary presence of so many troops, National Guard troops, guarding the nation’s Capitol,” he said. “I would have never imagined that would be necessary, and I hope that it won’t be necessary indefinitely.”

Since Jan. 6, newly elected Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri has been one of the leaders calling for the ouster of all “Republican members of Congress who incited the white supremacist attempted coup.” One of the most prominent Republicans being referred to is Georgia millionaire and manic conspiracy theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene. In recent days, more and more media outlets have become hip to how out-of-control, bananas scary Greene’s very recent history of delusional thinking is. On Friday, Rep. Bush turned to her Twitter account to share news of what sounds like another American’s unfortunate and frightening run-in with Greene, writing: “A maskless Marjorie Taylor Greene & her staff berated me in a hallway. She targeted me & others on social media. I'm moving my office away from hers for my team's safety. I've called for the expulsion of members who incited the insurrection from Day 1. Bring H.Res 25 to a vote.”
This comes a little over a week after Greene posted on Twitter that Rep. Bush needed to “denounce radical BLM violence and apologize to the McCloskey’s.” Funny story: The McCloskeys need no apologizing to, because they’re the assholes who stood in front of their St. Louis mansion threatening peaceful protesters with guns.* Greene posted a video she said proved that Bush berated her and not the other way around. In the video, Greene is talking directly into her phone, purportedly walking through the halls of the Capitol, with her “censored”-stenciled mask around her chin. Rep. Greene’s face is completely exposed as she breathily attempts to say she has denounced the Capitol insurrection and blame it on a few bad apples. At a point in the video, responding to someone telling her from down the hall to “follow the rules and put on a mask,” Rep. Greene turns, and does indeed put on her mask, while confusedly yelling back that “You know you shouldn’t bring COVID-19-positive members in here. Spreading COVID everywhere.”
To be clear, the only thing you hear what may or may not be Rep. Cori Bush saying to Greene is that she needs to follow the rules and put on her mask. And she says it once. It’s Greene’s staff that very quickly jumps to being Jesus on the cross, while suddenly having to put on their fucking masks like a bunch of boobs. According to CNBC, Reps. Bush and Greene have—or had—offices on the same floor of the Capitol. According to the news outlet, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has stepped in to reassign Bush’s office to another floor.
Rep. Greene’s continuing presence in the halls of the Capitol building is just another reminder, like Trump, of how bad a democracy can be when it is pumped full of swamp water and corruption.
The tweet below with the video attached provides a very succinct example of the cognitive disassociation people like Greene have when it comes to their actions and statements, and their perception of how reality works.
Rep. Greene is as guilty as Trump and the rest of the Republicans who have promoted the evidence-free election fraud theories that, combined with Second Amendment paranoia and fear-driven racism, led to the general toxic and violent climate we find ourselves in today. The fact of the matter is that if Marjorie Taylor Greene had not been elected by a hoodwinked and gerrymandered GOP district, she’d likely be dealing with charges of breaking and entering of our nation’s Capitol building, like this Texas realtor.
*To be clear, if the BLM protesters were as scary and violent as people like Greene pretend, the McCloskeys and their two guns would not have been much of a match for the hundreds of marchers.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) spoke out on Thursday to say that if Republicans do not remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene(R-GA) from office, then “we must.”
Omar said this during an interview on SiriusXM’s “The Dean Obeidallah Show.”
“Today, Speaker Pelosi just a short time ago at a press conference talking essentially about the ‘enemy within’ the House, and she slammed congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has made comments about Muslims if you’re a practicing Muslim you shouldn’t serve in government, and that you and Rashida Tlaib are part of an Islamic insurrection, I mean more and more despicable stuff,” said host Dean Obeidallah.
“In Congress, should the Republican Party not be the ones leading to remove her?” he asked.
“They should be. This person, as you’ve stated, is dangerous and violent,” Omar replied.
“She has not only posed what many of us would consider a threat against myself and many of my colleagues, but she’s harassed people who have survived violence, children who have survived violence, and is lying about the deaths of so many children, and is really victimizing their families,” she said.
“This is not somebody that should be in office, you know, someone said yesterday instead of being in Congress, this person needs to be on a watch list,” Omar added.
“And if the Republican Party and its leadership is not going to do the work of removing her from Congress, we must do it,” she concluded.

This came after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) slammed Republican leaders for ignoring alleged past extreme statements that Greene had made.
“What I’m concerned about is the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives, who is willing to overlook, ignore those statements,” Pelosi said, according to CNN.
“Assigning her to the Education Committee when she has mocked the killing of little children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, when she has mocked the killing of teenagers in high school at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school — what could they be thinking?” Pelosi added.
“Or is thinking too generous a word for what they might be doing? It’s absolutely appalling, and I think the focus has to be on the Republican leadership of this House of Representatives for the disregard they have for the death of those children,” she concluded.
Greene has also spoken out to defend herself in the face of this backlash.
“Over the years, I’ve had teams of people manage my pages,” she said in a statement.
“Many posts have been liked. Many posts have been shared,” Greene added. “Some did not represent my views. Especially the ones that CNN is about to spread across the internet.”
