Feds Catch More Than 460 Known, Suspected Terrorists In Nine Months, Most At Northern Border

By Bethany Blankley (The Center Square)

There have been hundreds of known or suspected terrorists apprehended at the northern and southern borders in the current fiscal year, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.

As foreign nationals illegally enter the U.S. and are apprehended, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations agents screen them against a federal Terrorist Screening Dataset, which includes sensitive information about terrorist identities. It originated as a consolidated terrorist watch list “to house information on known or suspected terrorists, or KSTs, but has evolved over the last decade to include additional individuals who represent a potential threat to the United States, including known affiliates of watch-listed individuals,” CBP states.

As of June 15, OFO agents apprehended 53 KSTs at southwest border ports of entry and 284 at northern border ports of entry, totaling 337. CBP’s fiscal year begins on Oct. 1.

They also apprehended 125 KSTs between ports of entry at the southern border and two between ports of entry at the northern border, totaling 127 KSTs fiscal year to date.

Combined, they’ve apprehended 464 known or suspected terrorists.

That’s nearly a 30% increase in one month after previous increases were roughly 87%.

Roughly one month ago, The Center Square reported OFO agents apprehended 332 KSTs at both borders. They apprehended 125 at the southern border (45 KSTs at ports of entry and 80 between ports of entry) and 207 at the northern border (205 at ports of entry and two between ports of entry).

These numbers were up from 284 KSTs apprehended by March, which was significantly up from 38 apprehended by January, an 87% increase in just two months.

By comparison, in fiscal 2022, 478 KSTs were apprehended in fiscal 2022. Agents apprehended 165 at the southern border (67 at ports of entry and 98 between ports of entry) and 313 at northern border ports of entry.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas maintains that the border is closed and secure. He’s refused to resign despite growing calls for him to do so. Multiple attorneys general and members of Congress have called for his impeachment.

While border security experts acknowledge the commendable work of OFO agents in apprehending known or suspected terrorists, they also express concern about how many have illegally entered the U.S. unabated.

Last month, former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the Trump administration Tom Homan warned, “What’s happening is the greatest national security threat since 9/11. Border Patrol has arrested people from 171 countries. Many of these countries are sponsors of terrorism.”

He also pointed to the record number of gotaways, those who’ve illegally entered the U.S. and evaded capture by law enforcement, totaling over 1.7 million reported by Border Patrol agents since the president’s been in office – that number’s since gone up.

“If you don’t think a single one of the 1.7 million is coming from a country that sponsors terrorism, then you’re ignoring the data,” Homan said. “That’s what makes this a huge national security issue.”

While many have focused on the southern border, a congressional Northern Border Security Caucus was formed in March to call for additional security along there. It’s mainly left unmanned when comparing the amount of personnel to square mileage.

The U.S. northern border is the longest international border in the world, spanning 5,525 miles. Fourteen states share the U.S.-Canada border; 13 to Canada’s south and Alaska to its west.

By comparison, four states share 1,954 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, with Texas sharing the most of 1,254 miles.

Pelosi Comes Unglued As She Claims Small Inauguration Is ‘Not A Concession To The Terrorists’

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) got defensive during her weekly press conference on Friday as she addressed plans for Joe Biden to have a scaled-down inauguration next week.

Pelosi Comes Unglued

“For a long time now, weeks, it has been determined that we would have a very small inauguration because of COVID,” Pelosi said, adding “that in order to have the distancing and the rest on the platform and then some people down below, it would be necessary to limit it.”

She went on to say that it is “most disappointing” because “we’re excited about nominating a new President of the United States, but not at the risk of people’s health and well-being and, indeed, their lives.”

“So this is always going to be small,” Pelosi continued, before mentioning the Capitol riots last week.

“Now, with the insurrection of last week, it is necessitated by security to have more security but hasn’t changed the nature of the swearing-in,” she said. “I think it’s important for people to know that. This is not a concession to the terrorists. It is a recognition of the danger of COVID.”

Pelosi Says Lawmakers Could Be Prosecuted Over Capitol Riots

Pelosi also said that any lawmakers who played a role in assisting the Capitol rioters last week may face criminal prosecution.

“If in fact it is found that members of Congress were accomplices to this insurrection, if they aided and abetted the crime, there may have to be actions taken beyond the Congress in terms of prosecutions,” she said, according to Politico.

Pelosi specifically singled out a rioter who was wearing a sweatshirt that read “Camp Auschwitz,” a reference to the concentration camp that killed over one million Jews during World War II.

“To see this punk with that shirt on and his anti-Semitism that he has bragged about to be part of a white supremacist raid on this capitol requires us to have an after-action review,” Pelosi said.

This comes days after Pelosi led the charge in the House impeaching President Donald Trump for a second time.

Meghan McCain Blasts Capitol Rioters As ‘Domestic Terrorists’ Who Should Be Sent To Guantanamo

On Monday’s episode of the ABC talk show “The View,” conservative cohost Meghan McCain blasted the Capitol rioters as “domestic terrorists” who should be sent to the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.

Meghan McCain Attacks Capitol Rioters

“I just think we need to treat the domestic terrorists the way we do actual terrorists,” she said. “I think we need to consider all the possibilities. I’m not against sending these people to Gitmo, That may sound extreme. These are domestic terrorists who attacked our own republic. They should be treated the same way we treat Al-Qaeda.”

McCain also called on Republicans to impeach President Donald Trump before he leaves office.

“People are really worried about violence on Inauguration Day. I think they have to send a direct message, Republicans and Democrats, that this cannot stand and there have to be ramifications for what happened,” McCain said. “This is one of the worst domestic terror attacks in our history.”

“I have said this on this show numerous times: Facts are stubborn things. Normally I say it in relationship to Democrats — now I’m saying it to Republicans,” she added.

“If President Obama had incited this kind of riot, where he had lied to his voters, lied about the election and then sent a mob of people up on Capitol Hill where the vice president could have been killed or worse, there would be absolute bedlam worse than we’re seeing now,” McCain said.

Whoopi Goldberg chimed in with a simple “oh my God” in agreement with McCain’s sentiment.

McCain Doubles Down

“So the problem I’m having now, and I’m just speaking to my own party — there has to be intellectual consistency in this,” McCain continued. “Because we always go on TV and say we are the party of law and order, we are the party of the ideals, we are the party of ramifications for people that screw with America, we’re gonna put a boot in your you-know-what if you screw with the American way. I have said that.”

“So why is it different when it’s MAGA supporters?” she continued. “That’s where I’m really confused right now. If we let this stand and we don’t have 100% for impeachment, the 25th amendment, anything and everything to get him out now — the existential threat of violence is still here.”

Donald Trump speaks to insurrectionists occupying Capitol: ‘I love you. You’re very special’

For more than two hours, the nation’s capital has been under siege. Police have been injured, a woman has been shot, at least one improvised explosive device has been found. Both chambers of Congress have invaded by a mob of armed insurrectionists intent on overthrowing the elected government, congressional offices are being ransacked, and both the Senate and House have been evacuated along with several other federal buildings. All of this came after Donald Trump told his supporters he was going to march with them “up Pennsylvania Avenue” to the Capitol, where they would “cheer” for Republicans opposing the counting of the Electoral College vote.

But Trump didn’t march. He didn’t walk so much as a block. Instead, he got back into his car and returned to the White House. As a result, many of his supporters were convinced that Trump was still physically with them, even when the assault on the Capitol building began. Even as his supporters shoved over barriers, smashed through windows, broke open doors, and injured police to occupy the Capitol and threaten both legislators and their staffs. In those hours, Trump has issued only two milquetoast tweets, neither of which called on the terrorists who came to Washington, D.C. at his invitation to halt their invasion. Trump hasn’t just failed to issue a call to end this attempted insurrection, he has refused.

Losing the U.S. Capitol during a key electoral procedure to a modestly-sized crowd from a publicly-announced event is not a "failure." It was a decision. They were ordered to not do what they normally would've done. We need a full accounting of every single official involved. https://t.co/YiuqCicEJ0

I am drawing up Articles of Impeachment. Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate. We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath.

CNN: National Association of Manufacturers, the nation's largest manufacturing association, called on Vice President Mike Pence Wednesday to consider working to remove President Trump from office.

— Jim Acosta (@Acosta) January 6, 2021

Multiple sources have reported that several people inside the White House, including Mike Pence, have called on Trump to issue a stronger statement to his followers. However, Trump is said to be angry at Pence for failing to overturn the election results … so he’s holding the whole nation hostage to his pout.

Pence has issued his own statement saying that “those involved will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” However, that also remains to be seen. Having gathered his followers together under the promise of a “wild” time; having spent months inflaming them with lies about a stolen election; and having spent years teaching his followers to disregard every other source … there is every reason to expect that, far from prosecuting the terrorists, Trump will issue a blanket pardon.

At 4 PM EST, President-elect Joe Biden issued a statement in which he said: “This is not protest. It is insurrection.” He called on Trump to go on national television and end this attempted overthrow of the nation.

Fifteen minutes later, Trump issued a statement to the terrorists saying: “I love you. You’re very special. I know how you feel.” In the video, Trump continued to insist that the election was stolen and he won in a landslide.

Trump did say for terrorists to “go home in peace.” That’s one hell of a lot different from “prosecuted the fullest extent of the law.”
