GOP Rep Says Impeachment Was Really About Dems Trying To Frame 74 Million Trump Voters As Capitol Rioters

Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) spoke out over the weekend to say that the last impeachment effort against former President Donald Trump was really about Democrats trying to “equate” the 74 million Americans who voted for him with “the couple hundred criminals who came in an ransacked the Capitol.”

Johnson Reveals What Impeachment Was Really About

Johnson explained that he feels that the “ultimate goal” for Democrats with this impeachment was to frame Trump’s supporters as indistinguishable from Capitol rioters.

“They really wanted to use impeachment as a vehicle because they wanted to equate all those tens of millions of Trump’s voters and all of his supporters and everybody who came to the rally, they wanted to equate all of those people with the couple hundred criminals who came in and ransacked the Capitol,” Johnson told Breitbart News.

“If [Democrats’] new impeachment standard is to take hold, most of the party leadership in the Democrats will have to be censured or impeached themselves,” he added. “I thought Trump’s attorneys did such a great job with their video montage where they showed all these guys — even the impeachment managers themselves — using the exact same language that they were trying to incriminate the president by using.”

“[Trump] has always stood for law and order and defense of the Constitution,” Johnson said emphatically. “He’s always opposed mob violence.”

Johnson Doubles Down

Later in the interview, Johnson predicted that congressional majorities will be using impeachment as political tools more often in the future.

“You are lowering the bar [for impeachment] now. You weaponized this,” he said. “You turned it into a political weapon to be used by the majority party against a president they don’t like. You opened a Pandora’s box that we may never be able to close again.”

Johnson added that he does not believe that the impeachment effort that Democrats just carried out was what the founding fathers had in mind when they framed the Constitution.

“What the Founders had in mind when they set up this impeachment article and the idea behind it was that it would be so serious that the decorum would be so appropriate for the weight of a moment like that,” Johnson explained.

“It was sort of presupposed,” he added. “It was understood, of course, that you would afford due process. They didn’t need to spell out the federal rules of the civil procedure in the Constitution for something like this because they thought that everyone would be acting like adults.”

“This was not a constitutional exercise,” Johnson concluded. “What [Democrats] tried to do [is] to raise ‘cancel culture’ now to a constitutional level.”

Lindsey Graham Says Mitch McConnell’s Anti-Trump Speech May Come Back To Bite Republicans

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) went on Fox News on Sunday to say that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) post-impeachment speech in which he condemned President Donald Trump may come back to haunt Republicans.

Graham went so far as to say that with this speech, McConnell “put a load on the back of Republicans.”

McConnell’s Anti-Trump Speech

This came one day after McConnell claimed that Trump had committed “a disgraceful dereliction of duty” by his actions before last month’s Capitol riot, and was “practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day.”

While interviewing Graham, Fox News host Chris Wallace said, “Let me ask you about one person that he might be mad at and tell me if he is or he isn’t, Mitch McConnell, who made a curious speech yesterday in which he basically said the president is guilty, but that the Senate doesn’t have the power to convict, to act against a former president.”

“What did he think of McConnell’s speech, what did you think of McConnell’s speech?” he added.

Graham Responds

“Well, number one, I was a bit surprised, but I heard this in 1998. I’ve been in three of the four impeachments,” Graham replied.

“I’m sorry about that. The bottom line — in 1998, you had a lot of Democrats acquit Clinton but got on the floor and said how bad he was,” he said. “You know, Nancy Pelosi called us all cowards. I don’t think most Republicans care what she thinks.”

“I think Senator McConnell’s speech, he got a load off a chest obviously, but unfortunately he put a load on the back of Republicans,” he added. “That speech you will see in 2022 campaigns.”

“I would imagine if you’re a Republican running in Arizona or  Georgia or New Hampshire, where we have a chance to take back the Senate, they may be playing Senator McConnell’s speech and asking about it as a candidate,” Graham continued.

“I imagine if you’re an incumbent Republican, they’re going to be people asking you will you support Senator McConnell in the future,” he concluded. “So I like them, Senator McConnell. He worked well with President Trump. I think his speech is an outlier regarding how Republicans feel about all this.”

Alan Dershowitz Warns That ‘Cancel Culture Is Quickly Becoming American Culture’

Harvard law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz went on Fox News on Sunday to blast cancel culture, which was highlighted by threats made against former President Donald Trump’s defense attorney Michael Van Der Veen.

Dershowitz Compares Cancel Culture To McCarthyism

Dershowitz compared the current situation to McCarthyism in the twentieth century, and he also planned to fight it with all that he has.

“Cancel culture is quickly becoming American culture,” he said. “You know, Common Cause, which purports to be a liberal, not a radical organization, has now demanded that Facebook keep Donald Trump off its platform.”

“We are getting liberals, Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times, saying Fox should be taken off cable networks. It’s a call for censorship,” he continued.

“I grew up during McCarthyism,” Dershowitz added. “I hated communism. But I defended the rights of lawyers to defend accused communists. And I defend today every lawyer.”

“And if any lawyer is the subject of this kind of McCarthyism, I will represent you pro bono,” he said. “I will represent you in front of universities, in front of bar associations. I’m going to dedicate myself to making sure that the new McCarthyism of the hard left doesn’t become American culture.”

Jim Jordan Weighs In

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) also weighed in on this, expressing similar sentiments to Dershowitz.

“On the day we had the impeachment vote on the house floor, I told my Democrat colleagues, I said, the cancel culture won’t just stop with Republicans. It will come after all of us in the end,” he said. “And that’s why we all have to push back.”

“If we don’t push back on this and stop it and stand up, as Mr. Dershowitz said, stand up for the Constitution and the First Amendment, it will only get worse,” Jordan added. “This is the No. 1 issue for the country to address today.”

On Saturday, the Senate voted to acquit Trump after Democrats tried to impeach him for allegedly inciting the Capitol riots last month.

Had they succeeded in impeaching him, Trump would not have been allowed to run for office in the future. The acquittal means that as of this writing, Trump will be permitted to run for president again in 2024.

Former First Lady Melania Trump Announces That She’s Opened New Office At Mar-a-Lago

Former First Lady Melania Trump has just announced that she is opening a new office out of her Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. This comes after Melania was attacked by the media over reports that she has spent much of her time in the spa since moving out of the White House.

Melania Opens Office

“Mrs Melania Trump is announcing the opening of The Office of Melania Trump. Please follow this account for news and updates,” tweeted Melania’s official Twitter account.

This came after CNN reported that Melania was spending much of her time at the spa and was annoyed by the coverage her successor Jill Biden is getting.

“She goes to the spa, has lunch, goes to the spa (again), and has dinner with Donald on the patio. Rinse and repeat. Every day,” a source said, with another adding that Melania’s schedule is “pretty much the same as it was before (she was First Lady) or even when she would come down during vacations.”

An insider claimed that Melania is “bitter and chilly” at times towards her husband, former President Donald Trump, about the way they left the White House.

“She could see how it was going to go for her,” the source claimed, referring to the days before they left the White House. “Once (the Capitol riot) happened, she knew there was nothing to gain for her by speaking out or doing something — so she didn’t do anything.”

Melania To Continue Be Best

Last month, we reported that Melania had planned to start an office so that she could maintain her Be Best campaign.

Her post-White House staff will include three familiar staffers: Hayley D’Antuono, who previously served as her director of operations and trip supervisor; Mary Finzer, who previously managed Melania’s “gift closet;” and Marcia Kelly, a former unpaid senior adviser in the White House.

Sources said that the team is planning to initially work remotely and out of the Trumps’ private Mar-a-Lago Club, though Melania, 50, is looking for a separate office space in Palm Beach.

James Clyburn Issues Brutal Warning To Trump – ‘This Is Just The Beginning’

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) went on CNN on Friday to discuss Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, and he ended up issuing a major warning to the former president during his interview.

Clyburn Issues Warning To Trump

Clyburn said that he does not think Trump is “going to escape” without consequences over Capitol riots, warning the ex-president that “this is just the beginning.”

“You know, I watched very intently, especially on yesterday as the House managers closed their remarks. They were brilliant all week. They have allowed the American people to see exactly who and what Donald Trump is,” Clyburn said.

“This, to me, is a big contribution to the Republican Party,” he added. “I don’t see how they could possibly not take this opportunity to free themselves of the yoke that this man is around their necks.”

“And so, I don’t know that they’ll do it. I suspect that they’ll give him a mulligan as they did before, but Donald Trump knows very well the next mulligan he gets is going to have to be on the golf course because they’re waiting for him down in Fulton County, Georgia, as well as up in New York. I don’t think he’s going to escape this. This is just the beginning,” he concluded.

Democrats are currently trying to impeach Trump in the Senate for allegedly inciting the Capitol riots last month. If they succeed, Trump will not be permitted to run for office in the future.

Clyburn Discusses Conversation With Bush

Last month, Clyburn claimed that former President George W. Bush told him he’s “the savior” for endorsing Joe Biden during the Democratic presidential primaries.

“George Bush said to me today, he said, ‘You know, you’re the savior because if you had not nominated Joe Biden, we would not be having this transfer of power today,’” Clyburn said on a press call with reporters just before the inauguration.

“He said to me that Joe Biden was the only one who could have defeated the incumbent president,” Clyburn added.

Schiff Claims GOP Is A Trump Cult – Says They Have No Ideology Or Principles

House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) went on MSNBC on Thursday to attack the Republican Party, saying that the GOP is now a Trump cult with no ideology or principles.

Joy Reid Interviews Schiff

“Congressman Schiff, do we need to start having a serious conversation not just about Donald Trump being a bad guy, but about the Republican Party becoming a radicalized anti-democratic institution?” asked host Joy Reid.

‘Because you can’t have a regular party like the Democrats who have their flaws, and we can have an issue with them and a party that is willing to seize the power by force?” she added. “Because that’s what that sounded like it to me.”

Schiff Responds

“That’s absolutely right. I think the managers they’re talking about Donald Trump because he’s the one on trial, and that makes perfect sense, but there are broader, serious problems with the GOP right now as a party,” Schiff replied.

“It has really become a cult of personality around the president,” he said. “It doesn’t have an ideology anymore. It doesn’t have principles anymore.”

“It’s willing to welcome in white nationalists and QAnon conspiracy theorists and people who use violence if they don’t get their way,” Schiff added. “That party needs to come to grips with what it’s become. It needs to be a party once again that stands for something and not just the cult around Donald Trump.”

Schiff Has Accused The GOP Of Being A ‘Cult’ Before

Democrats are trying to impeach Trump in the Senate, claiming that he incited the Capitol riots last month. If they succeed, Trump will not be allowed to run for office again in the future.

This is far from the first time that Schiff has accused the Republican Party of being “a cult.” At the end of January, he said that “the GOP leadership is becoming little more than a cult and a dangerous cult.”

Schiff went on to blast House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for visiting former President Donald Trump at Mar-A-Lago this week.

“That is sadly where the GOP leadership is at in Congress, and that’s part of the reason why the Capitol looks like an armed fortress right now,” Schiff lamented.

Hero Capitol police officer to receive highest honor Congress can bestow, Nancy Pelosi announces

Newly released security camera footage revealed that the Capitol police officer celebrated as a hero for diverting an angry mob away from legislators during the Jan. 6 insurrection also possibly saved the life of a specific legislator who didn’t realize he was in immediate danger. Sen. Mitt Romney didn't know he was approaching a white supremacist mob when he first encountered Officer Eugene Goodman in the hallway of the Capitol building, The Washington Post reported. Rep. Stacey Plaskett presented footage of the scene during the impeachment trial on Wednesday.

"You all may have seen footage of Officer Goodman previously, but there's more to his heroic story. In this security footage you can see Officer Goodman running to respond to the initial breach,” Plaskett said, narrating the footage. “Officer Goodman passes Senator Mitt Romney and directs him to turn around in order to get to safety. On the first floor just beneath them, the mob had already started to search for the Senate Chamber."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Thursday that she’s introducing legislation to award Goodman and other officers who stood guard during the insurrection with a Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor Congress can bestow, Pelosi said in a press release. “The service of the Capitol Police force that day brings honor to our Democracy, and their accepting this Gold Medal will bring luster to this award,” she said in the release.

Goodman initially attracted praise when HuffPost reporter Igor Bobic tweeted footage of the officer diverting insurrectionists on Jan. 6. It has since been viewed more than 10 million times. “Just now realizing how much of a close call it was in the Senate,” Bobic tweeted. He told Good Morning America that certifying electoral votes from the presidential election, the act that the terrorist mob was trying to interrupt, is normally a routine practice, but last month, “a commotion” and “yelling” began during the process. "And I ran downstairs to the first floor of the Senate building, where I encountered this lone police officer courageously making a stand against the mob of 20 or so Trump supporters who breached the capitol itself and were trying to get upstairs,” Bobic said.

Goodman, with no gun in hand and no tactical gear, pushed the mob leader in an effort to bait him and ran in the opposite direction of the Senate Chamber. “They were yelling ‘Traitors. We want justice. This is our America. If we don’t stop this now, we won’t get justice. Trump won,’” Bobic told Good Morning America. At times, the insurrectionists chased Goodman slowly.

“Officer Eugene Goodman’s heroic actions on Jan 6th saved countless lives & prevented a violent mob from breaching the Senate Chamber,” Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. tweeted Wednesday. “We all owe him a debt of gratitude.”

Read Pelosi’s complete letter:

"This week has been an historic one for the Country and the Congress.  We have been reminded of the extraordinary valor of the United States Capitol Police, the men and women who risked and gave their lives to save ours, becoming martyrs for our democracy.

The outstanding heroism and patriotism of our heroes deserve and demand our deepest appreciation, which is why I am honored to introduce legislation to pay tribute to the Capitol Police and other law enforcement personnel who protected the U.S. Capitol on January 6 with the Congressional Gold Medal: the highest honor that the Congress can bestow.  The service of the Capitol Police force that day brings honor to our Democracy, and their accepting this Gold Medal will bring luster to this award.  A draft of this legislation is attached.

We must never forget the sacrifice of Officer Brian Sicknick, Officer Howard Liebengood, MPD Officer Jeffrey Smith and the more than 140 law enforcement officers who sustained physical injuries, or the courage of heroes such as Officer Eugene Goodman.  Indeed, we must stay vigilant against the “silent artillery of time,” as President Lincoln stated in his Lyceum Address – a speech that, fittingly, warned of the dire threat that mob insurrectionists could represent to our Democracy: “If [danger] ever reach us it must spring up amongst us; it cannot come from abroad.  If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher."  We promised the families that we will never forget.”

Joy Behar Accuses Trump Of ‘Negligent Homicide’ For Capitol Riot

As the Senate impeachment trial against Donald Trump continues, “The View” cohost Joy Behar is accusing him of “negligent homicide” over last month’s riots at the Capitol.

Behar Attacks Trump

During Thursday’s episode of “The View,” the hosts discussed the new footage that has come out showing the Capitol riots. Unsurprisingly, Behar took the opportunity to blame everything on Trump, just as she did for the entirety of his presidency.

“One of the arguments they’re giving on the Trump side of it is that he can’t be held responsible just for the basis of inflammatory speech,” Behar said. “The original permit of the event on the ellipse was not to authorize a march on the Capitol. It was not authorized.”

Related: Joy Behar Says GOP Senators Wouldn’t Vote To Impeach Trump ‘Even If He Threw Them Off A Roof’

“According to what we heard yesterday, it wasn’t until Trump and his team directly involved in the event’s planning that the march came into the picture,” she added.

“They signed the permit to allow the mob to go on the Capitol, okay? That is not a free speech issue. That is action. That is actionable. He signed the permit that said ‘go ahead,'” she said.

Behar Accuses Trump Of ‘Negligent Homicide’

After accusing Trump of giving his supporters a “signal to go after Pence,” she concluded her rant by saying that Trump didn’t share his video address to the mob until hours after the riot took place.

“Now, to me, that is negligent homicide,” she said outrageously. “A cop was killed. Many were injured. Between the Pence act and the mob of the period of time between the assault on the Capitol and when Trump decides to talk and tell them calm down, that is negligent homicide.”

Behar then shared a quote from the George Orwell book “1984,” which goes, “The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears it was their final most essential command.”

These kinds of extreme attacks on Trump are nothing new for Behar. Last month, she bizarrely claimed that Trump “made it his business for four years to rape this country.”

MSNBC’s Joy Reid Says Cruz And Hawley’s Families Should Be ‘Ashamed’ Of Them

MSNBC host Joy Reid went after Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Josh Hawley (R-MI) on Wednesday, going so far as to say that their families should be “ashamed” of the role she claims they plaid in the Capitol riots.

Reid Attacks Cruz And Hawley

“If I were the families of Josh Hawley who unfortunately replaced Claire McCaskill in the United States Senate and Ted Cruz, I’d be ashamed because they were a part of it,” she said, referring to the Capitol riots.

“Josh Hawley was giving the high fist to those murderers, those cop killers. Ted Cruz, they’re in the gallery saying, oh, Ted Cruz is with us,” Reid added.

“They’re accessories to the murders, to the mayhem, to the hunting of the vice president of the United States, and by the way, where is the vice president of the United States? You’ve been asking that, Nicolle,” she said to her colleague Nicole Wallace.

“He was literally hunted like an animal. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anything like this in terms of Senate testimony ever,” she said.

“I don’t know how any of them can sleep at night and face their families and their children and explain after what has basically been a truth, not the reconciliation part, but a truth commission,” Reid continued.

“You know, I doubt that Donald Trump will be convicted. They’ll find a way to tuck their shame away and pretend that this is okay, but we now know,” Reid concluded. “We know. We have seen it viscerally. We have heard the police calling on the radio calling for help.”

Cruz And Hawley Condemn Capitol Riots

It should be noted that both Cruz and Hawley have repeatedly condemned the Capitol riots over the past few weeks.

“We saw a terrorist attack on the United States Capitol,” Cruz said on January 7. “Everyone who attacked the Capitol should be fully prosecuted and they should spend a long, long time in jail.”

“You’re not going to get anything but condemnation from me for what happened with those criminals at the Capitol on Jan. 6, but that doesn’t make the trial any more legitimate than it is, which is totally illegitimate — no basis in the Constitution,” Hawley said on Thursday, according to Politico.

“What we’re seeing is what we lived through. It’s what my staff lived through,” Hawley added. “The criminals who did it ought to be prosecuted as they are being and ought to be given the full measure of the law.”

Cory Booker Claims No More Evidence Is Needed To Conclude ‘Trump Violated His Oath Of Office’

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) went on CNN on Thursday morning to claim that “we do not need more evidence to come to the conclusion that Trump violated his oath of office.”

Booker Says No More Evidence Is Needed To Impeach

In making this claim, Booker cited Trump’s “prolific tweeting,” and his silence as his followers tried to find then-Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi during the Capitol riots last month.

“They literally were saying they were taking direction from him. They were reading his tweet publicly out to other rioters as they chanted, ‘Hang Mike Pence,” Booker said.

“I do not understand how you cannot look [at] this prolific tweeting that went on and then the silence afterward. This is a president that knows how to tell people to stop,” he added.

Booker Doubles Down

“I don’t know how you can’t look at the fact that it was well known that the riotous, murderous mob was in the Capitol for an hour plus, and then the two things you hear from the president is one, him replaying his own speech on Twitter and then telling the mob that Mike Pence had failed them,” Booker continued.

“It is hard to even venture to say that the commander-in-chief who swore an oath to protect this sacred space did not fail in his duty, did not betray that oath,” Booker concluded. “We do not need more evidence, in my opinion, to come to the conclusion that … Donald Trump violated his oath of office.”

Trump Impeachment

This comes as Trump’s impeachment trial is ongoing in the Senate, with the former president being accused of inciting the Capitol riots last month.

He was already impeached by the House over this for a second time last month, but it remains to be seen whether Democrats will be successful in impeaching him in the Senate.

Earlier this month, Booker released a statement calling for the Senate to impeach Trump, saying that “it brings me no satisfaction to come to this conclusion. And yet we all swore an oath to  ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States.’”
