Representative Adam Schiff put the blame for coronavirus deaths squarely on the fact that President Donald Trump was not impeached back in January.

Schiff: ‘Little Did We Know How Great The Casualties’ Of Impeachment Failure Would Be

Sparked off by a comment from MSNBC anchor Lawrence O’Donnell, Schiff went on an insane diatribe linking the casualties of coronavirus to the failed impeachment.

“We can’t act even slightly surprised by this because you told us this was going to happen in your argument in the Senate impeachment trial,” O’Donnell put to Schiff.

“Well, we certainly told the senators that he was not going to change, and there was no way to constrain him. That he is who he is, and he would continue to operate the way he had, and indeed, that’s exactly what we’ve seen since,” Schiff replied. “The one thing we dramatically understated is when we asked the question, ‘If you found him guilty, do you really need to remove him given there is another election only nine months away, how much damage could he really do?'”

“We said a lot, but little did we know just how great the casualties would be. Some days we lose the equivalent of the number of people we lost on 9/11,” Schiff claimed, with clearly no self-reflection. “You know, I think that there is no way we could have foreseen just how tragic his malfeasance would be in his remaining months in the administration.”

Absolutely Unhinged!

The RNC called Schiff’s arguments “unhinged” in their tweet covering his appearance, and I am very much inclined to agree. It’s completely deranged to not only put the blame for deaths from the coronavirus on President Trump, but also in the impeachment itself. Ironically, you can make a far more coherent case that the impeachment debacle actually distracted the attention of the Democrats in Congress from the growing threat of the pandemic back in January!

As Fox News host Sean Hannity pointed out on his March 16th show, Democrats weren’t interested in the coronavirus at all. When the first person with coronavirus entered the country on January 21st, the Democrats were “in the throes of an all-consuming, what has been the culmination of a three-year quest to impeach and throw Donald Trump out of office.” On January 23rd, when China sealed off the Hubei province, House impeachment managers were starting their opening arguments. And on January 31st, when President Trump issued the travel ban to and from China and declared a national health emergency, Democrats, including Schiff, were busy trying to impeach him.

Republicans Raise $117 Million Throughout Trump’s Impeachment

The Republican National Committee just revealed that they brought in an astounding $117 million through online fundraising during Democrats’ attempts to impeach President Donald Trump.

The money was raised through the RNC’s “Stop the Madness” campaign, which was promoted through TV and digital ads after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced in September that the House would launch an impeachment inquiry into Trump.

The ads continued to run until Trump was acquitted by the Senate on Wednesday, according to McClatchy.

RNC spokesman Rick Gorka said that the ads cost $11.3 million to make and garnered 460 million impressions, and he added that the money raised will be used to invest in states Trump lost in 2016 but hopes to win in 2020.

“With the additional financial support, we are actively looking at additional ways to expand the map beyond our historic field program already in place,” Gorka wrote. “It also is putting Democrats in a tough place. The Democrats did not see the money and energy like we did and it is costing them every day.”

Two months ago, Trump predicted that the left’s impeachment effort would prove to be lucrative for his own party.

“I think it’s going to be a tremendous boom for the Republicans,” the president said.

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee has not released any data about their impeachment-related fundraising efforts. They were only able to raise $28 million in donations in the fourth quarter of 2019, while the RNC raised just over $72 million from October through December. On top of that, the Trump campaign was able to raise $46 million.

This proves once and for all that the left’s impeachment efforts completely backfired on them.

Americans saw right through what Democrats were doing, and they could tell that the impeachment effort was really just a witch hunt against the president.

Democrats were trying to remove Trump from office by any means necessary, but all they may actually have accomplished was ensuring that he would get four more years in the White House.

Ex-Spokesman For Romney Campaign Says Trump Guilty Vote Was ‘Motivated By Bitterness And Jealousy’

Earlier today, Senator Mitt Romney, R-UT., betrayed the Republican Party that once named him as their presidential nominee when he voted in favor of convicting Donald Trump on impeachment charges. He was the only GOP senator to break party lines by convicting the sitting president.

Now, a former spokesman for Romney’s unsuccessful 2012 presidential campaign is speaking out to say that the senator’s vote that Trump was guilty of impeachable offenses “was motivated by bitterness and jealousy.” Rick Gorka, who is currently a communications director for the Republican National Committee (RNC), took to Twitter to say that Romney is just bitter that Trump “accomplished what he [Romney] has failed to do multiple times.”

He went on to slam Romney for pandering to the very Democrats who ensured he did not win the presidency in 2012.

“These are the same people that hated Mitt in 2012 and they will hate him again when they are done with him,” he added. “It is sad to see that Mitt has not learned the lessons from 2012. Now he has betrayed his Party and millions of voters.”

Gorka wasn’t the only person calling Romney out for his bitterness today, as the president’s son Donald Trump Jr. also got in on the action, going so far as to call for the senator to be “expelled from the GOP.”

“Mitt Romney is forever bitter that he will never be POTUS. He was too weak to beat the Democrats then so he’s joining them now,” he tweeted. “He’s now officially a member of the resistance & should be expelled from the GOP.”

Romney was well aware that even with his guilty vote, there was no way Trump would be impeached today. He also knew that the majority of his Republican constituents don’t want to see the president be impeached, so the only logical explanation for his vote is that he was indeed bitter.

It’s sad that after so many years, Romney let jealousy cause him to betray the party that has been so devoted to him. Republicans will never be able to look at him the same way again.

Who’s paying for Trump’s impeachment defense? Republican donors, yet again

Almost everything about Donald Trump's finances remains murky, because Donald Trump has refused to do the customary tax disclosure of what he owns and who owns him, while his cabinet blocks outright any congressional attempts to review that material. But we do know, in a bit of an ironic twist, who is paying for Trump's lie-filled legal defense during his Senate impeachment trial. You will not be surprised to learn it ain't Donald Trump.

The Trump defense is in large part being paid, reports The Washington Post, by the Republican National Committee. Yes, it is the Republican Party itself, through the donations of America's greatest suckers, that is paying to argue that a Republican-and-only-a-Republican president can demand that a foreign government assist his reelection efforts, and can use the tools of his public office to extort it into doing so. Impeachment word-sayers Jay Sekulow and Jane Raskin had received $225,000 as of November, says the Post, but we can expect that amount to balloon significantly.

The RNC's costs to defend Trump are expected to be in the millions, all of it coming from Trump-supporting Republican donors (presuming, of course, there's no Lev Parnas or other foreign-agent cash mixed in, which is not a bet anyone should take). This is less money that Trump's supporters have to donate toward actual Republican campaigns, so this is good news. That doesn't mean that the rest of America isn't on the hook for some of Trump's defense, however: Taxpayers of course pay for the Justice Department and White House-based government lawyers who have done their damnedest to obstruct the House's impeachment investigation and continue to argue vigorously that the Senate has no right to or need for evidence either.

But the rest of the details, like Trump's own finances, remain murky. Defender Alan Dershowitz claims he is not receiving a penny for his work defending Trump, which checks out, because Alan Dershowitz would consider national television time to be the best pay anybody could possibly give him, and will probably be using his own recordings ... privately ... for the next 10 years. Ken Starr isn't talking at all, because Ken Starr has gotten very reluctant to talk about much of anything since his most recent scandal—or maybe he decided he needs all the fact-hiding practice he can get, just to keep himself limber.

Trump celebrates impeachment for abuse of power by bilking the taxpayers even more

Smack dab in the middle of his impeachment trial for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, Donald Trump is shamelessly grifting off the taxpayer, spiking room rates at his Doral Resort just ahead of a Republican National Committee meeting there, which he will attend. HuffPost reports that the rates are more than doubling, from $245 to $539 per night for the least expensive rooms. That $539 is just under the maximum $546 per night per diem rate under federal rules.

Trump will only be there for part of one day, not staying overnight. But he has to have advance staff and Secret Service agents there for a few days ahead of time for security and preparation. The Secret Service wouldn't tell HuffPost how many people will be housed there, at $539 a night each for an unspecified amount of time. But it could result in tens of thousands of dollars flowing into Donald Trump's pocket—tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars.

Of course, the RNC chose Doral as its January meeting site. It’s happy to have its 168 individual members put their money into Trump's pocket. HuffPost estimates that the total cost to the RNC will be $500,000 for food, staff bedrooms, and meeting rooms, in addition to the room cost to the individual attendees. That's on them if they want to keep enriching their dear leader. But they should be forced to reimburse the treasury for the taxpayer costs.

As Robert Weissman, president of the liberal watchdog group Public Citizen, told HuffPost, "What better way to defend yourself in an impeachment trial over abuse of power than to jet to your private golf resort on the public dime, secure lots of publicity for the club on the public dime, and then, possibly, rip off taxpayers by forcing them to pay extra for the staff whose costs at the resort are billed to 'we the people.'"
