DEVELOPING: More GOP Senators Could Defect in Impeachment Trial

By David Kamioner | January 27, 2020

Respected political analyst Dr. Tim Blessing of Alvernia College in Pennsylvania has had a look at the Senate GOP caucus and how they may vote on witnesses in the impeachment trial.

“I did a count Friday night. The following are GOP Senators who have publicly left some air in their positions as per witnesses: Murkowski, Gardner, Ernst (though she appears to have walked hers back), Collins, Tillis (who also might be rethinking things), Portman, Inhofe (a bit of a surprise), Lankford (also a bit of a surprise), Toomey (who is quietly moving to a center position–but he cannot be re-elected if he does so), Alexander, Enzi, and Romney. I have no idea what Cruz is doing. If we get down in the weeds, some of these folks could switch.”

It’s a majority vote and current projections show that the Democrats only need to flip four GOP Senators in order to get witnesses.

If Dr. Blessing is right and witnesses are called to testify in the impeachment trial, this becomes an entirely different ordeal and one that could go in very strange directions.

Brazil’s ‘Trump’, President Jair Bolsonaro, Rises in New Poll

By David Kamioner | January 27, 2020

It is rule of thumb that many conservatives who take over national leadership from failed liberals undergo a policy trial of fire before triumphing and winning a solid reelection.

Except Donald Trump. His policy and political victories seem to have started the day he took office. His trials, well, have been actual trials.

But Margaret Thatcher went through tough times and violent national labor strikes until good economic news and the Falklands War brought her landslide reelection in 1983.

Ronald Reagan went through his own economic crucible from 1981-1983 until a rising economy and a national security resurgence, typified by the successful Grenada operation, brought him his own massive win over a weak Democrat opposition in the 1984 presidential election.

Now, one of the two strongest conservative leaders in the Western hemisphere is in a similar situation. We know where Trump stands. But how about Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro?

Better than he was before.

Good numbers in a Wednesday CNT/MDA poll has the pugnacious president scoring well with Brazilians on fighting corruption, handling the economy, and stopping crime. 35% of his countrymen view his administration as great or good. That’s up from 30% in August. His detractors are at 31%, down from 39%.

His personal approval is at 48%, up from 41% in August. The other side sports 47%, down from 54%. The next presidential election is in 2022 and Bolsonaro leads his probable leftist opponent, a former president driven from office and jailed for corruption, by over ten points.

The Brazilian president’s main issue has been in comms. He just had to fire his cultural secretary for cribbing from Josef Goebbels, the Third Reich cultural minister, in a speech. But that’s mild compared to other missteps.

He once told a female political opponent, “I wouldn’t rape you because you don’t deserve it.” He later clarified, saying the female politician was “not worth raping; she is very ugly.”

On women in general, “I’ve got five kids but on the fifth I had a moment of weakness and it came out a woman.”

On those who betray national security, “I am in favor of torture, you know that. And the people are in favor of it as well.”

On gays, “I would be incapable of loving a homosexual son.”

I could go on. But you get the drift. The man makes Donald Trump look like Joy Behar.

However, voters all over the world care more about crime and the economy than they do about boneheaded statements. Bolsonaro like Trump, warts and all, looks like a good bet for eventual reelection.

CNN Admits Trump Legal Team Success, But Argues a Lack of Diversity

By PoliZette Staff | January 26, 2020

Following a swift and decisive round of opening arguments by the Trump legal team in the Senate impeachment trial, members of the GOP and staunch followers of the President were left encouraged. But they were not the only ones.  Even oft-antagonistic CNN agreed with the sentiment of a strong performance by Trump’s team.

CNN legal analyst and liberal commentator Jeffrey Toobin shocked viewers when he admitted that the Republicans were “winning” the impeachment trial.  Here is what he said.

“Again, I just think the Republicans are winning here. The president is winning here. And as long as they don’t completely fall on their faces, which they’re all competent lawyers, they’re not going to do that, I think that’s fine for them.”

However, despite his comments acknowledging the GOP’s success, he was quick to point out the lack of diversity on Trump’s legal team. He further stated that “President Trump has too many white men as lawyers,” needing something negative to spin for CNN viewers.

He went on to describe the lack of women and pondered whether or not the Trump team would allow them to speak, in a clear zing meant to further the mainstream media’s narrative that the Trump White House is misogynistic and plump full of bigots.

Of course, as a counterpoint Toobin was certain to highlight diversity within the Democrat party, citing their strong commitment to the cause and equal representation among Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics.

This is all too typical of the Democrat narrative, manipulating the optics and overall message while hiding behind the indefensible claims of racism, bigotry, xenophobia, or whatever the cause du jour may be.

While diversity is certainly welcomed and should be championed on all sides, placing the most qualified people into positions of power, regardless of race or gender, should remain the priority this country.

Pro-Life Advocates Arrested Outside Nancy Pelosi’s Office

By John Wesley Reid | January 23, 2020

Nine pro-life abolitionists were arrested yesterday outside of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office on Capitol Hill.

On the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision to standardize the regulatory limits of abortion nationwide, a group of abolitionists made their voices known that Pelosi’s influence in blocking pro-life legislation was not acceptable. The group included members of the newly founded Stanton Public Policy Center, which, in conjunction with the pro-life healthcare provider, Stanton Healthcare, is pushing for pro-life policies internationally.

The particular legislative blocks that the group was protesting about were laws that would have required abortionists to provide ambulatory care for babies who survive botched abortions.

“It is unacceptable that we as a nation would ever think that it would be okay to pass legislation in states that would allow for a baby to be killed after a botched, late-term abortion,” Stanton founder and CEO Brandi Swindell told LifeSiteNews.

Video captured by LifeSiteNews shows the demonstrators being arrested:

“There are people alive today who survived abortions, and their lives have just as much dignity and value as any other human being,” one advocate said, then asking that Pelosi would “see the value in those infants who are left aside in a bucket, to look at them with the dignity that she looks at America.”

The event was covered in prayer by Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the DC-based Christian Defense Coalition. Mahoney is well-known in DC as an advocate for justice and minister of the gospel at various events in the district.

“These little babies are fighting to survive an attempt for their life to be taken out, and then we give abortionists another opportunity to kill that baby? It’s wrong. It is not who we are as a society. It is barbaric. And so all of us here today, we represent the millions of Americans that reject abortion or reject late-term abortion. And so today was a moment of strength, it was a moment of power, it was a moment of speaking truth to power,” Swindell added.

The sit-in, branded as the Purple Sash Revolution, was held two days before the nation’s largest pro-life demonstration, the March for Life. On Friday, January 24th, tens of thousands of pro-life advocates will gather on the National Mall to hear from influential speakers in the pro-life community. After the rally, the crowd will march from the National Mall to the Supreme Court.

This year’s keynote speaker is President Trump who will be the first-ever sitting president to attend the March for Life in person. Trump has spoken to the crowd from the White House via satellite and Vice President Mike Pence has attended the event in person, but this will be the first time a sitting president has taken the opportunity to address the crowd directly in person.

Trump tweeted a video from last year’s March for Life while expressing his excitement to attend saying, “See you on Friday…Big Crowd!”

March for Life President Jeanne F. Mancini provided the following statement regarding President Trump’s attendance:

“We are deeply honored to welcome President Trump to the 47th annual March for Life. He will be the first president in history to attend and we are so excited for him to experience in person how passionate our marchers are about life and protecting the unborn. From the appointment of pro-life judges and federal workers, to cutting taxpayer funding for abortions here and abroad, to calling for an end to late-term abortions, President Trump and his Administration have been consistent champions for life and their support for the March for Life has been unwavering. We are grateful for all these pro-life accomplishments and look forward to gaining more victories for life in the future.”
