Lindsey Graham Predicts ‘Not Guilty’ Impeachment Votes Are Growing After ‘Absurd’ Arguments From Democrats

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) went on Fox News on Wednesday night to tell host Sean Hannity that he believes that “not guilty” votes are growing in former President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial.

Graham went on to explain that this was due to House impeachment managers floating the “absurd” conspiracy theory that the riots were planned by Trump.

He then accused Democrats of failing to investigate their impeachment claims thoroughly enough before moving forward with it, which is why their “incitement claim is falling apart, and they’ve had to come up with a new “cockamamie” theory.

Graham Says ‘Not Guilty’ Votes Are Growing

“Let me tell your viewers: the “not guilty” vote is growing after today,” Graham said. “I think most Republicans found the presentation by the House managers offensive and absurd.”

After admitting what happened at the Capitol was terrible, Graham went on to say, “I don’t remember any of the House managers saying a damn thing when they were trying to break into my house and going after [Republican Senator] Susan Collins [of Maine] and spitting on all of us.”

“If this is a problem for a politician to give the speech that President Trump did, well, then [Vice President] Kamala Harris has a real problem, because she actively engaged in bailing out rioters,” he added.

“And here is what I would suggest. if you are a politician trying to raise bail for people accused of rioting, you are inciting more riots,” the Senator said.

Graham Says Impeachment Argument Has Fallen Apart

Graham went on to discuss just how much Democrats’ impeachment argument has fallen apart.

“If there was preplanning, there was no incitement,” he said.

“The managers have got this cockamamie idea absurd theory that Donald Trump was monitoring the Proud Boys’ website, and other far right websites, and that he and [former White House social media manager] Dan Scavino knew this was going to happen and they encouraged it,” Graham continued. “That is Looney Tunes.”

“And you know why they are saying that? Because if the president didn’t know, and it was actually preplanned, he is not guilty,” Graham added.

“So for the first time today, they are trying to create a storyline that Donald Trump was in on it before it happened, that he was monitoring the proud boys and other crazy websites and he knew they were come to Washington with violence on their mind, and he encouraged it,” he said.

“That beyond bizarre,” Graham continued. “This is not evidence. This is a liberal democratic novel being presented as evidence.”

Graham Wants To Know What Pelosi Knew

After saying that he would like to know how much Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) knew about the riots in advance, Graham concluded by saying, “This is why you don’t want to have snap impeachments. Evidence really does matter.”

Cory Booker Claims No More Evidence Is Needed To Conclude ‘Trump Violated His Oath Of Office’

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) went on CNN on Thursday morning to claim that “we do not need more evidence to come to the conclusion that Trump violated his oath of office.”

Booker Says No More Evidence Is Needed To Impeach

In making this claim, Booker cited Trump’s “prolific tweeting,” and his silence as his followers tried to find then-Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi during the Capitol riots last month.

“They literally were saying they were taking direction from him. They were reading his tweet publicly out to other rioters as they chanted, ‘Hang Mike Pence,” Booker said.

“I do not understand how you cannot look [at] this prolific tweeting that went on and then the silence afterward. This is a president that knows how to tell people to stop,” he added.

Booker Doubles Down

“I don’t know how you can’t look at the fact that it was well known that the riotous, murderous mob was in the Capitol for an hour plus, and then the two things you hear from the president is one, him replaying his own speech on Twitter and then telling the mob that Mike Pence had failed them,” Booker continued.

“It is hard to even venture to say that the commander-in-chief who swore an oath to protect this sacred space did not fail in his duty, did not betray that oath,” Booker concluded. “We do not need more evidence, in my opinion, to come to the conclusion that … Donald Trump violated his oath of office.”

Trump Impeachment

This comes as Trump’s impeachment trial is ongoing in the Senate, with the former president being accused of inciting the Capitol riots last month.

He was already impeached by the House over this for a second time last month, but it remains to be seen whether Democrats will be successful in impeaching him in the Senate.

Earlier this month, Booker released a statement calling for the Senate to impeach Trump, saying that “it brings me no satisfaction to come to this conclusion. And yet we all swore an oath to  ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States.’”

New footage raises questions about Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick’s death on January 6

As investigations into the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection continue, federal authorities have not only arrested multiple individuals in connection to the violence but narrowed down a few suspects connected to the death of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick. Sicknick was one of five individuals who died during the riot; currently investigations into who is responsible for his death continue. The 13-year police veteran died a day after the riots after collapsing in his office after he was "injured while physically engaging with protestors," Capitol Police said in a statement last month. While initial reports indicated 42-year-old Sicknick was killed after being struck with a fire extinguisher, those reports were proven untrue.

According to CNN, new video evidence has aided investigators in their search and raised hopes that charges may be brought in the case soon. Sicknick’s death has been a complicated case where investigators have struggled to determine what moment he suffered his fatal injuries; while initial reports indicated he was struck by a fire extinguisher, no evidence of blunt force trauma was found. The new video footage suggests that a suspect may have sprayed an irritant, such as bear spray, that caused Sicknick to suffer a fatal reaction, an official said Wednesday.

Audio clips played during Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial depicted officers screaming during the Jan. 6 attacks that some mob members were spraying them with bear spray. Supporting these claims, Sen. Mitt Romney told reporters Wednesday that Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman had also shared that "he had to breathe a lot of bear spray and tear gas and that he was nauseated.” Other footage of officers being beaten by rioters were also shared to determine Trump’s role in the violence. According to court documents, more than 100 officers were injured during the riots and at least 15 officers required hospitalization.

The evening of the insurrection, Sicknick told his elder brother that while he had been pepper-sprayed at least twice, he felt fine, ProPublica reported. His family was then alerted the next day that he had suffered a stroke in his office.

To honor his bravery and commitment to protecting members of the Capitol Sicknick received one of the highest tributes that Congress can offer a civilian—he was laid in honor in the Capitol building. “That Brian and his family were made to pay such a high price for his devoted service in the Capitol was a senseless tragedy, one that we are still grappling with,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer at the congressional tribute for Sicknick.

Sicknick’s death is heartbreaking. The actions that occurred the night of the insurrection were a sad reminder as to how backward the United States had become under the Trump administration. Fueled by hate and violence for years, Trump supporters have continued to hurt others without any regret. To date, more than 50 cases of violence have directly cited Trump as the influence and reason for the crime. Trump supporters have not only directed violence toward those who disagree with them but threatened a large number of public servants amid the pandemic. Additionally, hate crimes have seen a significant increase since Trump’s presidential term.

Trump and his minions must pay for their actions and justice must be served. As investigations continue, we can only hope that not only Sicknick’s murderer but all others involved in the Capitol riots are brought to justice. This new evidence raises questions on what actually happened on Jan. 6 and sheds light on what other crimes may have been committed.

At this time the new video the FBI is reviewing and an autopsy report have not been made public and Sicknick’s death has not yet been declared a homicide. In addition to federal authorities, his death is being investigated by the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department's homicide branch, and Capitol Police.

David Schoen, Trump’s lawyer, promises short impeachment trial: ‘Tears the country apart’

David Schoen, former President Donald Trump’s impeachment lawyer, on Thursday said the Senate trial should be wrap up quickly because there’s a lack of evidence the accused did anything wrong.

“It tears the country apart,” Mr. Schoen told Fox News. “It had nothing to do with President Trump, but they ...

Trump impeachment attorney says his colleague has been ‘unfairly maligned’

Trump impeachment attorney David Schoen said Thursday that his fellow impeachment attorney Bruce Castor has been "unfairly maligned" over his performance in the Senate trial thus far.

In an interview on Fox News Thursday afternoon, Schoen defended Castor’s work on former president Donald Trump’s legal defense team after Castor received widespread criticism for a winding performance Tuesday in arguing the Senate trial was unconstitutional. Schoen previously told Fox News that Castor hadn't planned on beginning his arguments Tuesday.

“Listen, Mr. Castor got up the first day, he jumped right into it to respond to something that had been said. And I think he's been very unfairly maligned, frankly. He's a lawyer with a long 35 years of experience or so," Schoen said. "Let's just see how this thing plays out."

Castor's speech Tuesday was meandering at times, touching on things like ancient Greek democracy and undercutting Trump’s false claims that he won the election, saying “smart” voters took him out of office. Trump himself was not happy with the team’s performance.

Trump's former impeachment attorney Alan Dershowitz said on Newsmax Tuesday that he had "no idea what [Castor] is doing" after the right-wing network cut away from his remarks.

“The American people are entitled to an argument … but this, just, after all kinds of very strong presentations on the part of the House managers … it does not appear to me to be effective advocacy,” Dershowitz said.

Former Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, a longtime Trump ally, called Castor’s work “unthinkable” after Castor said the team changed its strategy because they thought House impeachment managers had done a good job.

“That’s a prosecutor’s dream come true, for a defense lawyer to stand up during opening and say, ‘Wow, wasn’t that something? Boy, that was so powerful, we changed strategy,'" Christie said.

Trump’s legal team will wrap up its case Friday, Trump’s senior adviser Jason Miller wrote in a tweet Thursday, meaning the team will use less than two days to defend him. Schoen told Fox News on Thursday that Trump's team will not change its legal strategy on Friday.

“There’s no reason for us to be out there a long time,” Schoen said. “It should be as short as possible given the complete lack of evidence and the harm that this is causing to the American people.”
