The impeachment trial will force the Senate to decide whether to convict Trump of incitement of insurrection after a violent mob of his supporters laid siege to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced the schedule Friday evening after reaching an agreement with Republicans, who had pushed to delay the trial to give Trump a chance to organize his legal team and prepare a defense.
Ten Republicans fled Trump, joining Democrats who said he needed to be held accountable and warned ominously of a "clear and present danger" if Congress should leave him unchecked before Democrat Joe Biden's inauguration Jan. 20.
He said Democrats are really out to "cancel the president and anyone who disagrees with them." And he warned that "cancel culture will come for us all."
